So I am thinking of getting a 2001 now?
I was set on getting a 996.2 for the updated headlights and power update. But I found a 2001 Coupe in the color combo (Silver/Red) that I wanted with factory aero kit (Taco Wing) which I like.
I know about the IMS update that should be changed out, the scoring of the rings and misaligned cases, etc
So I am thinking of the following upgrades if I decide to buy:
Simple exhaust update/air filter/Etc to push power to 320HP
Looking for GT3 Rims, the Turbo Twists are not my taste
Modern Navi system with IPhone 6S dock system since it is a coupe
I'm ok with the exterior and interior look as I have driven a couple, would be my first water cooled 911. So tell me your thoughts?

Miles, options, price, pics?
I'm biased, but that's a great color combo.

Miles 47,000 3 spoke wheel, factor aero kit, sport seats, cd player, the usual options expect for the aero kit

Share some pics if you can. As mentioned, it sounds like a nice color combo. These Porsches don't necessarily have immediate requirements that you mentioned, unless maintenance is not up to date. GL

If you're going for performance, do yourself a favor and skip the GT3 rims. I'm a bit frankly puzzled on why Porsche decided to use such a heavy rim for their top performance model but I suspect it had more to do with long term durability and style more than anything else.

I have a 2000 C2, only issue radiator exp. tank, 58k miles, orig. IMS. I tend to think you won't notice the 20 hp except for the dent in your wallet. Upgrade the suspension and sway bars.

Your 320HP number with the mods you listed may be a pipe dream. Depending on which combinations you choose, your HP may be lower than when you started. I have blown a lot of money on strap-on, er, bolt-on mods for my Boxster and then my 996, and I wound up dumping nearly all of them. Right now the engine is bone-stock except for the Fister exhaust - and I love it.
I may be alone here, but a double-DIN head unit doesn't match the simplicity of the 996 interior. I _LIKE_ the dopey orange-letter radio; it's charming. Once you start bolting a bunch of electronics onto a 996, it's becoming something other than a 996.
Taco wings are sad. MK1 GT3 wing = rawr.
All in my opinion - but in my defense, you solicited opinions.

My thought you will never feel 20 hp with any mods. That car is very strong as is plus upgrades to the suspension. Once you learn how to drive it the want for more hp won't matter...than againI have a 4.0 so what do I know.

Show us some pics!
For me the best upgrades (other than the 997 engine, which is #1 by far) are:
- exhaust (a custom exhaust in combination with ECU tune), totally addictive sound!
- sticky tires for track and twisty mountain roads
Future mods:
Suspension upgrade to JRZ coilovers for next track season (currently 030 suspension).
Now have the turbo twists as well. They are not my favourite but they have grown on me; maybe a set of BBS is in the future. Loved the Fikse wheels on my past 986 as well.
Would also love to have the rest of the aerokit (currently just the side skirts)
As for the sound system - my 996 has the Bose upgrade but I prefer the awesome sound of the exhaust.

Also, if you werent aware, the mk 1 cars dont have a glove box (if that matters...it did to me)
Ive driven both, and to me i could tell the power difference, and the mk 2 just felt a little better, although that may have been a function of the cars i was driving vs engineering improvements.
As others have said, dont settle. Find the one you really want to avoid regrets.
