Question Blackstone Oil Analysis - High Copper - Low Mileage 996

I just received my Blackstone oil analysis report back of my 04 996. It look s little different than others I've seen on Reenlist. Copper levels a little high. Local shop says this could be IMS concern. Blackstone says could be from wear-in as engine has less than 10K miles on it. I understand that it's a bit difficult to make a solid analysis without a trend, however I wanted to create this baseline.

The oil that was analyzed was 12 months old and about 2,500 miles on it. The oil was Mobile 1 0W40 as the previous service was performed by Porsche. The car now has 9,500 Miles.

Thoughts of the analysis?

Thanks!

It may help if you tell us your year and model and the oil you use.

That's does not look like Mobil 0W40.

It's one UOA. Change the oil again in about 1-2,000 miles and see if copper is going up, down, or flat.

Hi Ahsai,

The car is an 04 996 as mentioned in the OP. The oil that was analyzed I assume was Mobile 1 as the service was performed by Porsche. However I was not the owner at the time.

Thanks for link - I'll check it out.

Just confirmed from previous service records Porsche used M1 0W40.

Interesting. Those are really high values for zinc and viscosities. Phosphorus looks about right, maybe slightly high. Usually we see more classic shear breakdown.

I'm pretty sure Jake Raby has addressed this before. But I can't remember, nor can I search on the Rennlist app. I'll look tomorrow on my laptop if not answered sooner.

I'm thinking exactly the same. The zinc level seems to be even higher than DT40.

You guys make me smile. The best way to protect the engine is to drive the thing. Not short trips as you are doing. Blow some **** out of it every couple of days or daily. Put more miles on it and then have your oil tested again. You will see a notable difference.

All I can say is that in order for there to be an average, there have to be numbers above the average.

...and the oil has only done 2500 miles.
