Hi I'm George. I've had my 996 since this past April. This is my first Porsche. I rescued my 996 from a local craigslist seller. The car was in desperate need of maintenance, but priced accordingly. I've been doing my best to bring it back to life and rennlist.com has been very valuable to me, I thank you for that.

My 996 is a 2002 c2, 6 speed, hard top, black on black, 82k miles.

There have been a few surprises along the way (good and bad).

The good: Gemballa exhaust, 997 IMS (factory replacement engine), and Sport seats (didn't know that was a thing).

The bad: mice living in the cabin air filter, parking curb damage under the front bumper with a shoddy repair, bent front strut mounts.

I've replaced many parts so far, rotors and pads, front struts and mounts, sway bar links, a few control arms, h+r springs, new tires and rims, rms, fluids, etc..

I've put on about 2000 miles this summer. The car is fantastic to drive, even on longer trips.

I'm a happy 996 owner ..

George

Welcome and congratulations on your 996. Great to hear another one has been rescued from a state of disrepair. No, they are not cheap to maintain but YES they are well worth it! Mine puts a big smile on my face every day.

Now, how about some pics?

Chicago here. Welcome to the madness. I'm new to the 966, and Porsche, since December 2014. Like you, I've spent most of the year doing work to get her about right. Mine had mostly cosmetic issues. I got the car painted, new wheels and tires, switched from halogens to litronics, and now I'm moving on to front brakes, end links and soon motor mounts.

Paul and Joe, I live in Richmond, up by the WI border.

I'll have to get some more recent pictures. Due to the damage under the front bumper, I replaced the original bumper cover with a C4S/turbo bumper cover. I'm not 100% sure I'll keep it. I'm not really satisfied with the looks of it. Looks out of place. But, the cover was a steal and in good shape, so it will work for now.

I also added some wheel spacers to get the wheels a little closer to flush.

Thanks for the compliments!

Welcome, great looking car!
Im up northwest too; Im in Wauconda, so not far from you at all. We try to get the the dog n suds once in a while in our old ford too...

Maybe we should have a 996 meet up for the 996 peeps?

Id also second the recommendation to join the Chicago PCA. I haven't been able to attend many of the events, but the few I have been, the people really have been great, including the autoX school this last spring.

If you ever want a hand on some DIY stuff, let me know!

Joe, The PCA Tech Session sounds interesting. Do you have to be a PCA member to go?

RGrove, likewise, I can lend a hand as well. I appreciate the offer.. A 996 meetup would be great. Do you attend any of the local cars and coffee?

I can get you in. And I'll pay your event fee at L&N. Send me a PM if you decide to attend.
