Default release of 991.2 causing histeria of NA watercooled 911's

As a 996 owner myself I even find it funny that people think that 996 and 997 prices should skyrocket because of the 991.2 models all having a biturbo engine.

I think people are pointing to a handful (or several) of articles that suggest the 996 is undervalued to support their case for a price increase, not the 991.2 release.

997 guys also feel their cars will hold or go up because they will be the last na engines.

I agree...
But a new turbo will be on the way as soon as we can get one. The engine will come apart immediately.

When the US rediscovers 5+% interest rates lots of prices will will reverse direction. The entire auto industry is floating on subprime loans/leases. As for turbos, I'd rather see those than hybrids.

I don't know, I think I'd rather hear the silence of the hybrid than the dumptruck of the new turbo.

So let me ask this: Will the "Turbo" designation even mean anything in the future? I mean they will all be turbos. Is Porsche considering coming up with a different designation and doing away with "Turbo"?

My Macan S for instance is a biturbo as is the Macan Turbo. So the designation really doesn't cut it IMO.

Default Turbo

It's still a flat 6, it has more power and torque, let's see how well they address turbo lag by keeping the turbos spinning at lower speeds, the exhaust will be sport tuned ... So what is the problem ? Isn't a 996tt more desirable than a 996 ? If they were downsizing to a 4 cyl turbo I could see the issue - but now the ECU will be open up to tuners adding 100+hp - and it should be a more desirable car ? What am I missing here ?

Btw - I was just in Germany, rented a bmw 435i twin turbo - got passed on the autobahn by a 996 c4s , who got stuck behind a truck - I went behind him, when the lane opened up again , we both floored it - no turbo lag from my twin turbos - and I kept up with him all the way to 125mph - in the rain - engine sounded pretty nice as well - so no, I don't see issue with twin turbos if they are done right ...

I am still curious with whom you placed your order for the new car - my dealer tells me I have to wait for another few months to even place a pre order

(You wrote that you'd placed an order a week ago)

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with as improvements - I imagine the first thing would be a replacement to the plastic oil pan !!

I do work for several dealers who have Motorsports connections for launch cars.

Honestly I'm more discouraged by the dwindling number of MT's than the switch to turbos. I'd be fine with a turbo diesel if it came with a stick. As I will never pay for a Porsche new, I'm pretty much at the mercy of what's out there. As for the values of the 996 and 997, sure it'd be nice if the one I own appreciated, but I'm not holding my breath. I think the sheer numbers of 996 and 997.1 cars out there, plus the stigma of the M96 engine make that a long shot.

I figure I'll drive one before condemning it .
Every new generation is faster than the one before it .
Can't see porsche going backwards on the zenith of their offerings .

What model did you order ? Do you have a build sheet with option numbers? I seriously want to take to my dealer and stick it in his face to explain that he's wrong ! I mean they're the third largest pcar dealer in the north east so it seems odd.

I've only had my C4 for a couple of months. I have no illusions of making money when I re-sell it but it would be nice if the prices held enough that I don't lose my shirt.

As for the new 991.2 - I have enough confidence in Porsche that I am stashing lots of overtime pay away so that I can order a 2018 or possibly 2019 model. Hopefully a GTS will be offered by then.

I think the new cars are going to be awesome.
