Well we walk up to a Cayman S and I hadn't seen this one local and was checking it out. Was a 2007 or 08 we are all walking around it and I showed my wife (who didn't really care) that this was a "mid-engine" Well we're walking away and the owner was sitting in the folding chair in front of the car. He then calls to my 3yo ,who my wife is holding his hand, "Hey little buddy, that's a cool car huh? Want to sit in it?" I had to interject and was like ummmmmmmmmmm , no thanks he gets to sit in his daddy's 911 at home......

LOL it was really funny to me as my boy really didn't notice his car. The guy was clearly embarrassed and I felt bad so we chatted for minute.. then I walked away lmao on the inside. My wife then asked why would Lucas want to sit in that car??

Wow, so you were a condescending tool to someone who was trying to do something nice for your son?
Cool story bro!

That's the worst story I've ever heard.

Yup, we let others sit in our car at shows. My wife and I did a frame off restoration (most of the work ourselves) of a mid-'50s Ford convt, and have shown it (and won) at national councours events as well as local events, cruise nights, etc.

If a kid seems really interested, and his parents seem aware (i.e. not letting the kids paw the cars, etc), Ill often offer to let them sit in the car, take pics, etc. One time the whole family climbed in and I took the pics for them. Ill also usually offer for older folks who "used to have one just like this..."

Its the best way to help light a spark of interest in the hobby for kids. Most people view it as being extremely gracious and generous, and are grateful that someone was kind and made their car accessible.

Ive also let people sit in it, as well as the P-car, when stopped for gas, at the hardware store, etc....

For all you know, the guy with the cayman has a 918 spyder in the garage at home, BTW...

Back to the point, I live in Fla, there are alot of car shows here. Endless number of really good exotics and expensive cars. I travel across country 2 or 3 times a year. After I get away from north fl and Atlanta, I very rarely see any good cars. Theres a much lower % of good sports cars outside of major cities.

That actually isn't the point....if you go back and read the OP original post (which I quoted in the first reply; he has since deleted his), the point is he was a total tool to a guy with a cayman who was trying to be nice to his kid.

One of OPs other since deleted comments was asking if anyone lets others sit in their cars....

I think you guys are being a little tough on the new guy.
The exchange probably didn't come off as harsh in person as it does in a forum post.

I've had folks at car shows offer to let my kids sit in their cars. I've done the same with kids who seemed really interested. I've even on occasion given kids rides in the car when it was the child of someone I knew (so that some random guy wasn't offering to drive off with their kid). That next generation of Porsche owners is out there growing up dreaming about the day they own one. I still remember my first ride in a Porsche when I was 14!

I had not read this thread. I'm not going to blast the OP, but a true sport car enthusiast appreciates all of them as each has its own uniqueness and this kind of mindset should be fostered in our children as they grow up. So, yes, take the man's offer then talk cars and share stories - win win.

Also, Caymans - especially the S - can easily give the 996 a run for its money. Just in case you didn't know.
