Im not sure yet on the rebuilt engine, He claims to have about 2yrs of records from the last owner to include the engine replacement. He also said the last owner upgraded the headers.

$12,000 to $13,000 dollars is probably top dollar for that car. It's probably about an $11,000 car and figure around $2,000 plus for all of the recent maintenance and the rebuilt engine. If the seller won't accept $13,000, then just wait as the car will sit on the market. It's a cabriolet, and we are entering the cold season and no one is looking to buy a convertible going into winter.

Since it's a C4 I think KC is low as they tend to go a bit higher than the C2s. That it has the hardtop helps some too from what I've gathered.

Personally even leaving my feelings about cabs aside, I wouldn't even inquire further on that car. The pics are terrible (is that dirt/grim worked into the seat or just a horrible pic?), no details about the engine replacement (e.g. why? who did it? reman? rebuild? refresh? used?), no details about the headers, and what the hell is that red thing underneath?

Given all that, maybe KC is right though I'm sure the seller will feel differently.

I think the location is the problem. Who would trust a vehicles history from Baltimore? Its probably been stolen 5 times, traded for crack 7 times, vandalized 6 times, and burglarized 12 times. No thanks.

OK, first the bad things;
Its a convertible, the 3.4, the engine detail red paint work, the stereo, K&N, the **** wheels, leak, color, its a POS.

The good things;
There are none.

I'm not anti-cab (I own one), and they can actually be pretty comfortable in cold weather if you have the hard top. But this particular car has a gazillion miles, lousy pictures, no detail about the engine rebuild, etc. Plus a hydraulic problem with the top (i.e. you'll need new or rebuilt cylinders). I'm a cab guy, and I'd pass.

Anyhow, I would recommend that you post the link to the car you are currently considering to get some opinions in addition to mine.
I don't think that special edition is a big deal. The 40th anniversary models are considered special but the edition you are looking at I don't believe is considered a big deal by many. Mileage is also quite high - you might get another 40,000 miles out of it, but it could also easily have an engine that is on its last legs. I do very much like the interior color, and although I haven't seen it in person, I have heard that paint is really cool. The exterior mods do worry me somewhat. I would offer $15,000 and make it contingent on a pre-purchase inspection at an independent Porsche mechanic. Expect the car to have some problems but if it looks like it is in decent running condition, then I say go for it.

It's sad when people think 160k is high mileage. I haven't been on bimmerforums much since I sold my e30 but 160k on one of those is barely broken in. Sold mine with 248k on it and still running fine for other owner.

Well I love my 2006 S430 4matic daily driver and it looks, runs, drives and rides beautifully. But with almost 190k miles, I consider it a disposable car at this point. I might get $5,000 for it if I try to sell it, so I will just drive it til it dies and sell the carcass since its worth more than that to me.
I would look at the car he is considering in the same light. Buy it assuming the engine could die at any moment. If it does, you're at peace with it. If it lasts another 40k miles or more, then join me in the high mileage lottery winners club.
