Default Cab top TSB - 6101 - flocked panel

Has anyone tried to implement TSB 6101 - "Noises in the Convertible Top" ?

As an early convertible (1999) my Top was built prior to the Tops that had the "flocked" front top panel. The amount of creaking (reminds me a bit of popcorn popping) I'm getting from the panel has progressively gotten worse and worse. I've finally decided to do something about it and replace the panel with the flocked version. The good news is that all in the parts cost is only $150 or so. (996.561.433.01 etc.)

Has anyone done this before? I have the TSB to follow but it would be great to hear any gotchas I might come across.

Oh and I have already gone through and sprayed and greased and all the other stuff one can do to the top to quiet it down (including implementing the many other Top TSBs). I'm pretty sure this is the last (for now) source of noise from my top.

To all you cab owners out there with "creaking" noises coming from the top, I highly recommend this repair. My car is much quieter after putting in the new "flocked" front panel. The job was fairly easy if done methodically. I employed the aid of my better half to do some required trimming and the top now looks nice and smooth from the outside.

Thanks for the update. Which part is the "front panel"? My cab hardtop gets creaky in the cold weather.

The part is shown here.

It is the Plastic Panel (996.561.433.01) that is part of the front-most part of the Top, above the front seats. The roof at the front is a sandwich (from inside to outside) of: the interior cloth headliner, an aluminum lattice-panel, a Plastic Panel (996.561.433.01) and last of all the Canvas.
