Default Chain tensioner guide

Anyone point me in the direction of a step by step guide showing the swapout of the chain tensioner under the AC pump.

Also I understand these can be cleaned up, is there a guide servicing these, I can't find anything in the search.

I wouldn't bother trying to clean up the tensioner - after even modest mileage the spring seems to lose some of its tension and hence its effectiveness.
I just replaced all 3 tensioners on my Boxster S and there was significant difference in compression tension between old and new.

The compressor is a real pain to remove. If you go to that much trouble, do as ST posted, replace it. One of the AC bolts can be reached with a 1/4" drive extension going between the intake runners.

If you feel the need to replace the tensioners, you should also check your chain guides. You're only tackling half if your guides are worn too.

To check for chain guide wear,look in the sump for dark colored,hard plastic debris.
It would be unusual to have more than 80-90,000 miles yet have no chain guide wear.

From all the chain guide wear I've seen, it seems to be all over the board and I suspect it has to do with OCI and type of oil used along with driving habits and environment.

I've seen some guides with only 50-60k that looks like it was from 150k motor. I've seen the opposite as well. Also important to note, there is wear from where the chain contacts the pads then there is also the pads becoming brittle and breaking off as well which I wouldn't really call "wear" myself.
