I hope you all have an awesome holiday that includes time with your 996.
My day off started out with the failure of a 4GB interconnect at the data center, which wasn't really where I planned to spend the morning - but it's all good now and the ribs are getting ready to go on the grill tomorrow. A morning with no rush-hour traffic and an excuse to drive fast isn't a bad morning at all.
For my fellow Americans out there - if you find yourself out in the 996 this weekend, remember how fortunate you are to live in a country where you can own such an awesome vehicle and drive it for thousands of miles without showing any papers (unless you happen to drive a bit too exuberantly). We may have some issues to resolve, but this remains one of the greatest nations on Earth.
For those of you who have been or are currently in the armed services - as well as those of you who have otherwise contributed to the security or success of our nation - thanks!

I though for a second your were saying that "My day started off with the failure of a IMSB..." and I had to do a double take.
You speatheth sooth and I will take out the 996 this weekend. Cheers.
I had the day off today and took the 996 out to Santa Monica for a beach front lunch with the wifey while the kids were in day care. Took Sunset from PCH instead of the freeway all the way to 405. I like that part of Sunset; plenty of twisties to get you in trouble with cops.
Happy Independence Day to my fellow Rennlister's and veterans! Mr. and Mrs. Gator are spending the weekend landscaping.
Spreading 7 yards of river rock is not very patriotic but it does allow time to reflect on the current state of affairs in this great nation of ours. As hard as it is to remain positive at times, I am truly optimistic that this great experiment of a free and undivided republic will continue.
And to my fellow vets, thanks for helping keep the dream alive.
Great post Schnelly. Spent the day coaching youth baseball in the Kansas State Championship Tournament and then with family. A good day. Sometimes you've just got to appreciate the moment and not worry about tomorrow. Happy Independence Day to you all.

Very well said 5CHN3LL and thanks. I served over twenty years and through 2 conflicts. I'm now retired and get the privilege to drive my 996 anywhere, anytime all over this great country of ours and I am thankful. As some have mentioned I have lived and severed some places where you were not allowed to have a car or if you did, you would not be driving it very far. America is a great country and we have a lot freedoms here people take for granted. I really wish I could round up a bunch of them and take them t some of the places I've been for a month r so, I doubt they would last and surely come back with a new appreciation. I'm not going t get on my soap box, but just wanted to tell each and everyone, Thanks and have a great 4th! Drive on, or whatever you do this weekend, do it in earnest. Happy 4th.
Happy Independence Day!
Yes, we do live in a great nation and it has its flaws but I'd rather live here than anywhere else. Spent some quality time at the post office to apply for a passport for my youngling yesterday afternoon and I was blown away how fast the postal workers work (slow as F¥£%). Yes, I pay astronomical amounts in taxes, but then look at what's going on elsewhere in the world, particularly in the Middle East; would not live there if they paid me. Also, let's not be ignorant about the fact that there are people who have sacrificed much more than some of us. God Bless America!
Schnelly my sentiments exactly......kicked the long weekend off last night with a 4 lb tenderloin on the grill with all the goodies. This afternoon me and Mrs. Sneaky are heading to the Stones concert at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway......celebrating our Independence day watching an English band.
No pictures, but my wife and I took a nice drive up the coast and had lunch at a nice restaurant on the water. The windows were down, the roof was open, the radio was off and I just listened to the PSE sing all the way. My wife may have said something, but I can't be sure of that.
I managed to get a 19 hour layover in Indy yesterday. I went home to do chores, drink a couple sodas in the garage with a BMW-owning friend and attend a cookout with the GF and one of her friends. Missed the fireworks due to an early go this morning but it's all good. Drove the P-car to the store and my buddy's house.
