986 v supercars
I got to spent the afternoon driving a bunch of other cars - ferrari f430, Maserati gt mc , Aston vantage v8, Nissan GT-R and a 991 carerra s ...
Ferrari was really something special - feels totally locked down on the road, sweet engine, but I wouldn't want the Maintenance costs associated with that. Maserati is fast, has great autobox, sounds fantastic - but no steering feel and at the end of the day the front feels heavy, looses grip and understeers in the tight corners.
The Aston v8 sounds fantastic too- the dsg single clutch box has harsh up shifts, but nice rev matched down shifts - feels better sprung than the others , more of a tourer than track car - good steering feel - convertible had lots of rattles coming from the back
gtr had nice seats, steering was better than Maserati , most power and I didn't feel turbo lag, best gear box and after reading all the reviews of how disconnected it is, I was pleasantly surprised - but still cheap nissan plastics in interior.
991 seven speed - shifter and clutch action was better than my 996 - but steering was clearly not as good, and even though it is 400hp it didn't "feel" more powerful or pull any better. I'd also say back end was "loose" compared to ferrari or gtr- and seemed worse than mine.
Bottom line - some of these machines cost between 10-20x what i paid for my 996 - and 996 driving experience is right up there still ....
