Default Need Brake Pads...

Hello all,
I am currently using PFC 08/06 pads on my 2001 996 C2, and I hate the dust and the SQUEEEEEEEEEEEL! I can not go around the block with out the wheels getting coated in brake dust. After a good weekend driving I need to take the damn wheels off to clean the face and the barrels correctly! And did I mention the SQUEEEEEEEEL?!

So I'm gonna keep the PFC's in a box for when I need to do an event but want something a little more street friendly for everyday driving. What are people using today that want a quite set of pads that dont cover the wheels in dust and that still work well?

(I need QUITE and CLEAN brake pad recommendations please...)

Akebono! Great performance for street driving and almost no dust.

Yup that happens when you use track pads for the street. Expensive pads at that.....just think about the $$$ you are throwing away in brake dust every time you hit the pedal. I've used Mintex for street pads and they are fine.

My go to pad for street is ALWAYS Porterfield R4S. This P/N is for my 2001 C4. Fronts AP 917 R4-S $169.95 Rears AP 738 R4-S $159.95

They have awesome cold friction coefficient. and are stable up to 800 degrees Way more than you could achieve on the street or autocross.

Another Akebono recommendation. Quiet and very little dust.

I run Hawk HPS. Quiet enough (not silent) with plenty of bite/fade resistance for the street and cheap. However, when they get low, not worn to replace, they can get loud in stop and go.

Just changed out my front pads last week and went with Mintex based on several recommendations.

Happy with them so far, after about 400 miles on them and one autocross, and no squeal.

Textar - close (if not same as) to oem - some dust , but quiet and nice feel ...

I have akebono on my bmw - less and light dust - wears forever - good feel when up to temp but less bite when cold ...

Little to no dust try the Hawk HPS. Reasonably priced. Swap the PF pads in for track events, but give them a session to bed in. Best of both worlds.

-1 for TEXTAR. In my opinion and experience with Textar on my car now I will never put them back on the car.

Cold bite is THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN MY STREET CAR PAD CHOICE.

Vision Motorsports told me the OEM pads are the best and these guys have tried them all. This recommendation was for my street car.
He told me Pagid is the maker but you can only get the good ones they make from Porsche because Porsche specified the compound for Porsche only.

You need to be specific in what they are best for because it certainly isn't for minimal dusting. I like the OEM pads best myself for street driving but hate the dust. I've had good experience with the Mintex Red Box and Akebono Euro Ceramics before for minimal dust pads. The Mintex has a slight edge IMO over Akebonos in initial cold bite.
