Default Alternator Pulley

The super charge whine of my 996 is starting to bother me, especially since I don't have a super charger. So in my investigation I have identified the source as the alternator. I know it's not hard to swap, but functions perfectly. I see a tool for removing the pulley. It is possible to swap out the pulley without removing the alternator. This is the first thing I could not find I good write up on.

Never mind. I just realized what a stupid question that was.

Before you incriminate the alternator, have you checked the idler bearings? Just slip the accessory drive belt off .Run the engine briefly to confirm that eliminates the noise. Rotate each Idler pulley to feel for wobble and spin for a noise check.

I just bought the 32 spline tool on Fleabay for $2.50 inc shpg -from China !I already have the T50 torx. You can get an Impact Torx set (long) from Harbor freight for $10.
You can get a comprehensive alternator tool kit for less than $20.
