Default Subwoofer Nuts - Check Yours!

I finally figured out how to remove the carpeted panel/subwoofer in my Cabrio (asked for help in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...r-removal.html) and when removed, it sounded very odd when shaken.

Removed the speaker and turned it over to find this inside (might affect sound quality?):

There is a small air port in the plastic enclosure, so I am guessing that was the entry point. I don't think a squirrel would fit, but maybe chipmunk? What I can't figure is, the whole padded thing is pretty tight to the tunnel so how did they get all the way to the subwoofer? Maybe there is an open gap at the top into the tunnel area behind the radio - could be I guess.

I did also find a mummified mouse carcass adjacent to the subwoofer box, in the padding behind the carpet, but a mouse would have no use/interest in an acorn as far as I know.

I found a birds nest in my air filter box. Still can't figure that one out.

I didn't count but that is all of them in the picture. I would guess there were 2 dozen though - they just kept coming out!

EDIT: I can count about 35 or so in my picture, so now I think 3 dozen! Yikes!

Wow. So for anyone who has ever wondered how many acorns can fit in a 996 cab subwoofer, here's your answer!

The car must have been parked for a very long period of time in the same spot with the top down or the PO pissed off the serive tech at one of the places where the car got serviced.

I agree. There is about a one year gap in the car's recent history, between the last service in FL and when it appeared at auction in PA and ended up with the OH dealer, so who knows where or how it was stored during that time. My friend who is helping with the car believes the same - left with the top down for some period of time.

Years back when my dad had his shop a customer who would buy and sell from car auctions brought in chevy 1500 pickup with a diff whine that started few miles soon as he drove it off the auction lot. When they opened it up banana purée poured out.
