a few weeks ago I posted about an Arctic C4S in the Albany NY area getting flatbeded on Rt 9 to see if it was anyone here... well he most likely
isn't but I have come to find out that it was the IMS that failed causing catastrophic failure of the M96 lump.
He is the original owner as well.
Fairly low mile example- sad part is he just missed the 10yr limit on the Class Action as its an 04.
Here's my 2 cents and its worth as much as sock lint...
If you're on this forum and you have a 996 you are obviously an enthusiast and have a passion for the brand.
Do your Mom, GF , Wife , Boyfriend, significant other, dog, cat , and get it replaced ...
This is the only example of $4000 >
$22,000 !

And just how do you know it was the IMSB?
Was it the IMSB that went or was it something else that took the IMSB out?
We know, thanks to Jake, that the IMSB is far from the only killer of the motor and we also know that at least some are misdiagnosed as the IMSB being as the root cause when it wasn't.
We've also had two cases just this year where the bearing was replaced, but the engine was still lost.
It's silly not to replace it if you are already going to be in there, but it's equally silly to believe that it alone is going to allow the motor to run forever.
Stop feeding the IMSBS!

Because it's at the Porsche dealership that works on my car. Definitely the IMSB. Mine was in for a water pump and alignment last week when I saw the sad beast beached in their lot.

Hey Jake...haven't met you but Tony Chick of EPL is a dear friend... he mentioned the other day that he had spoken to you and Charles. He's one of the best tuners I know.
Cheers,
Mike
