Well yes.....it happened......and no chance to rebuild here in Dubai, can I ask for opinions .....for the cost of the installed Fx engine I can buy a 2002 996 Targa with 98000 Kms ......but the C2 is in great shape apart from the engine......invest or cut my loses?

If it still has a lot of personal value to you, by all means find out about all the replacement engines out there. I don't think. 996 Targa is common over there so not sure if you can easily replace it.

My advice is to run the numbers, determine what is the cost of getting the current car back on the road. Learn what if any warranty the new engine comes with.
It helps if the current car is a good platform, is in good shape otherwise, and it suits you.
Then figure out what you can get for the car as a "roller" and then what your losses would be.
If you go with the 2002 996 Targa you have also the uncertainty of the condition of the "new" car. Also, what is to say the same catastrophic engine failure won't occur and you are faced with the same problem again?
My inclination is to stick with the car I know, though without knowing the cost of the new engine and the warranty the decision is not a slam dunk.

Thanks Macster, the current 996 is in great shape except for the engine, the only option locally is a remanufactured engine from Porsche, but the cost is the same as buying another 996, as a roller I'll be lucky to get 3k here, right know I think probably best to stick
K with what I know and go for the replacement engine....
