help
Hello
I live in France and I have a Porsche 996 (year 2003)
my car went of Floride , she is in France from 2010
but I have a problem the witness check is always alight and the message for to go to the garage. I am go in garage Porsche and the problem is a sensor on the gas tank , a sensor only for the US model and this sensor is welded on the tank ( not screwed) and the french solution is replacement of the tank 1720$
they can't cancel this anomaly
My question: do you know where this captor is situated on the gas tank and what are the colors of the electric cable
Thank you and excuse me for my american writing
Good road for you

Maybe the fuel vapor recovery system is the problem? There are two common problems that can cause symptoms like you describe, both are electrically controlled vacuum valves.
One is by the tank filler neck:

The other is called Regeneration Valve it is by the alternator in the engine compartment.
It is the more common problem.

There's also part #21 here

It will help if you can ask the shop for the part number of the part in question.

Would a RoW reflash eliminate this issue if the problem component is US-only? If so, that might be less expensive than running down parts.
Can anyone else with more knowledge of reflashing weigh in here?

@ 5CHN3LL: I don't undersdand all your message :-(
but I have find the regeneration valve , in france we have this generation valve and the fuel line vent valve
but we don't have the valve 21 whose Ahsai speak, and if the problems are come of these parts , the data processing system of Porsche would have recognised these defects I think that the problem comes of this parts
Thanks of yours next ideas

Le logiciel de la voiture est le rapport des détails pas nécessaire en France . Je posais les autres membres en cas de changement du logiciel à une version non - US éliminerait le problème sans avoir à remplacer les pièces .
Sorry for the terrible French - the best I could do with a year in college and Google Translate.

Part 21 is the only valve that appears to attach to the gas tank. It's inserted into part 20, a foam piece that's attached to the gas tank.
Sounds like your check engine light (witness) is ON. Can you use a scanner to retrieve the actual error codes? Those may give us more clues.

Durametric is great but you can also try a generic OBDII scanner (much cheaper) and see what codes you can retrieve.
