Default Convertible Top Maintenance

Lately, after I start the car, the convertible top light in the cluster stays on for about a 1-2 seconds before it goes off. Also, last week one day, it didn't work but after I turned off the engine and tried again in a 3 min span it worked again. Here are my thoughts:

1. Is the top mechanism about to quit?
2. Can I do anything before it quits?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a guess, but it's probably just a microswitch. The one in the e-brake handle base is the most likely to fail. This is an easy fix.

Do 2002s need to be parked with e brake on? I thought 2002 on could move top @ up to ~30mph?

They need to be parked with e brake on. But I'm more concerned about motor & hydrolics. Could the hydrolic oil be low or leaking?

If the hydraulic oil is low or leaking, I would expect the movement of the top to be slow or strained. It's easy enough to check the level if you are unsure.

Awesome link dude! I'll check out the details later today. I just realized that my top has been operating loudly so maybe the oil is low.

Just read it, and know and behold, you won't see the hydrolic fluid level unless you open the damn thing's guts. I just have to figure out what grade hydrolic fluid it uses so I can have it ready before I open it. Any idea folks?
