Default Finally, Engine To Be Built/Repaired

2002 C4, 70,000 miles, ate its' IMS bearing November, 2013. The chassis has sat in my garage since December 2013.

The engine has been on the local independents' storage rack [along with the tranny] since.

I will have all the money gathered together next week to take the engine down to 'Vision Motorsports' in Laguna Hills, Southern California. Dwain Dement, owner of Vision and I will meet to go over the build together. I didn't want to start this project until I had all the money together to do this project and do it correctly.

Will I have way too much money in this car? You bet! I am at the age where I know this will be my last Porsche and I would like to take the opportunity to turn this disaster into something special.

This car will be passed down to my children. I have 3 CHP [Ca. Hiway Patrol] officer kids so it will treated well.

There will be new H&R springs, Bilstein sport shocks, new camber plate shock mounts, semi solid engine mounts, all new suspension bushings, rotors and pads, brake booster, master cylinder, coolant reservoir w/sensor, CSF radiators [all 3], new water hoses and stage 3 clutch.

The engine will get the full treatment @ Vision, starting with 4.0 liter pistons,
Carillo rods, knife edged crank, motorsports air/oil separator, GT3 oil cooler, deep oil sump, swirl pots, lightened flywheel, X51 intake manifold, oil pump rebuild/capacity, and the Fabspeed intake/exhaust/Evoms program.

Here are some pictures of the chassis. I will post pictures of loading the engine to and from Vision along with the completed project.

Thanks, dgjks6. It is a 'Lapis Blue Metallic' with natural grey full leather interior.
What's with the bow on the top of your car?

It was a father's day gift.

Sounds like your car is going to be a beast. Are those 997 wheels? Whats the specs? Do they rub?

Great decision. Nice to hear from people who don't see these cars as disposable.

After a year and a half, it's going to feel like a new car! Especially with the upgrades. Make sure you share any pictures of the build in progress.

Great opportunity to clean the engine bay while waiting for the rebuild. Glad it is finally starting for you. Good looking cab.

Midnight Blue Metallic is REALLY dark. It looks black from a distance.

The color code is on the drivers side, in the front trunk. It shows the paint code and the name of the paint.

dgjks6,
The wheels are Carrera S wheels [997]. The fronts are 8.5"X19" and the rears are 11"X19". Front tires 235 35 19 rear tires are 295 30 19. As far as rubbing, I won't know until the new springs are installed and we lower the car to the ground. The H&R springs are supposed to lower the car by only 1", front and rear. If they do rub, I may look for a new set of 18" wheels. I really like the original 18" wheels but Wheel Enhancement doesn't get these type of wheels in very often.

There is going be more pictures as things progress. The one I am most desirous of seeing is the finished engine with the Fabspeed exhaust and intake!

Dwdunn,
Interesting approach to the project.I am just completing my M96 build so am envious of your budget .
For your budget ,could you not get a Jake Raby 4.2l engine and sell your core to Vision ?

Hey, Scnell Gelb,
Flat 6 will not do an engine without the chassis. I live in California so Vision is the right choice.
Dwain Dement, owner of Vision Motorsports, was the shop manager for Andial back when Andial were building the race engines in concert with Porsche. Dwain took the bulk of the mechanics with him when Andial shut down.
I know my engine will be in good hands.....

Correct, I require that we carry out the installation, break in, and testing of the engine, which requires the vehicle to be shipped. We also require the chassis so we can perform a "live tune" for that vehicle, fitted with that engine. I don't trust anyone else to install my engine, or break it in.

Dwain will take care of you, there's more than enough of these builds to go around :-)

FYI- I'd clarify the timing chains and rails, though, as LN doesn't make, or offer either of those, yet your other post on this build lists them being used.
