Default Coolant Reservoir Cap is black..need to replace? TIA..

I saw on a recent post about coolant reservoir caps being a certain part number and if they were under a certain number we should replace it with the newer part. Of course as all good psychotic OCD 996 owners would I immediately ran out to check and found....horrors!!! my cap is black in color!!! Oh no!!! I am sure that my car is about to spontaneously blow apart in the garage but figured...as I had in the past....I would ask here first. Should I immediately go out and lay down in traffic OR....just order a new coolant reservoir cap? Or is my black cap just fine?

Thanks everyone!!

If you think it is leaking then yes, I replaced mine with the black and it started leaking so I had to buy the OE one.

Unless it's leaking, leave it alone. If it's leaking replace it with the newest one available (I think "04" are the last two #'s). By all means, DO NOT lay down in traffic

Get with the program! You admitted that you read it on the forum so now you know. Reading it on the forum gave you the knowledge and what you do now means everything. If you don't replace it you will have violated the very basic OCD principles of the 996 forum/ownership and therefore should be banned from all future posts. Plus, you gave no information on age, location, mileage, etc. so we can't even weigh in on that. Please just order it (the blue cap ending in 04) and replace it immediately. Let us know how it goes.

Did you notice that Bill in CT has a purdy green car?

Blue would clash. Use that black cap as long as you can.

Mine is black too.

Regardless of color, it should have a part number. If it's a current part number, find a different thing to worry about. If it's not a Porsche part - and it's just a cap - you should replace it. The cap is designed to vent at a specific pressure, so there is actually a reason to use the Porsche cap and not just whatever happens to fit...

If you lay down in traffic, you won't need to worry about the cap...
