Hey gang....I thought I'd buckle up and join the Rodeo ! It's been over 15 years since my last confession...Uh.. I mean Porsche .
I've been fortunate enough in my 51 years to have owned a plethora of German steel. I spent most of the mid 90's to mid 2000's in both Audi S cars and BMW M5's ( e34's ) . I live 35 mins from Lime Rock so the temptations are awful everytime I sign up for a DE day. I also work for Audi...so I work at the asylum so to speak.
Right about the middle of last Fall I decided that based on current prices for 996's -it was time to get back into a P-car. I had just sold my 2010 BMW M3 thinking I would pony up for a higher mileage 996 GT3 but in the end they are still at a price point that I wasn't quite ready to commit to so I thought the next best thing would be a C4S . I like my Porsche's normally aspirated, all engine...flat 6's.
I absolutely love the 996. Always have since the MK1's came out.The idea that this is the platform that saved Porsche , is still somewhat lightweight and raw enough to please the senses is in my book nothing but win. I find the IMS issue a non-issue. $2500 for an LNE IMS,AOS,RMS +water pump and call it a day. I also loved the fact that they made a ton of them. Ultimately...that means tons of future parts and donor cars. I've owned a unicorn or 2...they're no fun to keep on the road.
I also feel it's a lot cheaper than what other more modern performance car owners have to deal with truth be told...but you folks know this. My M3 kept me up at nights thinking about when the rod bearings might go. My friends Rs4 has both intake manifold flap and carbon issues...and of course there are other German cars that shall remain nameless that have engine issues that can be catastrophic at will....so choose your poison is what I say.
After spending what seems like an eternity searching and driving all over the Northeast meeting owners and test driving ones for sale , and not to mention falling deeply into the rabbit hole of Youtube ...I finally found the right 911 for me.
She arrived last week. I love how under-described it was. In a good way...meaning it was cleaner than I thought it would be...to the point where it's pretty gosh darn minty fresh. At Audi , one of our tenets is "under promise / over deliver " ...so man , am I happy !
Work keeps me very busy so I broke every rule in the book with this car, but I had a good vibe about the seller, he barely pushed the virtues of his C4S. Sent me the Title even before getting my money, and the shop that did all the maintenance had great reviews and went out of their way to talk to me about how the seller/PO had an open checkbook policy with the car...so that said....I bought it sight unseen and had my shipper pick it up. Needless to say I went without sleep for pretty much 2 days until he pulled up at my house...though he did check in with me during pickup and said I won't be embarassed to drive it...which could mean a million things. Arthur has this southern minimalist charm about him.
I've only driven it once as the next day we had snow , and it's still snowing here in the Northeast. She rips and goes down the road like a well sorted 911 should. Clutch action is spot on, idle is smooth and took almost no time to adapt values as the battery was disconnected while it was stored. The car was never wintered.
What a car ! it's a perfect stable mate for my Audi Rs6 as they compliment each other , which wasn't the case with my E90 M3. I've enjoyed all the threads here on Rennlist. Great and informative. Lots of ownership pride so I look forward to sticking around and hopefully contributing in some way.
Cheers !
This is my man Arthur's rig ! he mainly transports race cars and exotics. One of the best in the business.
I love having 2 widebody cars in my garage I say Hi to them every morning
Your car is beautiful, it looks new. I think you're lucky to find a seller with the open checkbook policy, when ever they do finally sell its usually a great find for the next owner. Have fun.
