So thus guy talks about the whit gunk in the top of the oil filling tube when he talks about oil/coolant mix.

Is this true? I have the white oil gunk, I thought it was because I drive 2kms to work and it is the moisture mixing at the top of the tube and making a mayo like substance due to not getting up to temp.

Am I in trouble? Any help is appreciated.

Sorry buddy, please don't shoot the messenger but it sounds like intermix. You probably have a cracked head.

Really? I thought the little bit of mayo was common?!! The oil looks clean on change. How can I tell for sure?

I have been told. "It's usually just oil vapor mixing with water vapor from the crankcase. Wipe it out with a clean rag and drive the car more often than just short trips to bring everything up to operating temp to burn off the water vapor in the oil. It's especially common if it's been cold or you live in a humid climate.

But do check the coolant to make sure it perfectly clear."

According to the video, my Michellin Pilot Super Sports are cheap rubber because they are not "N" rated and I don't like my car.

Do oil analysis and it will tell you your water content. But it may also be your AOS. Any continuous smoking during operation?

Short trips are bad. The water vapor is one thing and the nonuniform heating of the engine block is another.

Nah...if it's intermix, all the oil will be "chocolate milkshake" like, and there will also be oil in the coolant (also foamy/greasy milkshake gunk). It sounds more like you've got some moisture/condensation buildup in the filler tube - most likely from short trips, not getting the engine up to full operating temperature for extended periods.

Others have said the same but I made short trips and never had this. Maybe depends on climate/location.

.

So every thread here eventually turns into a discussion of CEF or MOF?

Now this I certainly true.

No. I get this all winter (even when drives are fairly long) and it disappears during the warm months.

Trouble? NO, for those of us that drove air-cooled VW beetles in cold climates during winter this was pretty common.

The water and oil vapors would emulsify and condense on the long, cooler, oil fill spout (similar to the current one on the 996) creating the "mayonnaise" on the cap and down the sides of the spout.
It would often almost completely fill the spout on my 1964 bug, probably 3-4 ounces.
I'm pretty sure that it wasn't a cracked head causing the intermix on the VW.

"There are still people who think a liquid-cooled 911 is [not good]...they think the 993 was the last good one...those people are old geezers with a Nokia 3210 because it has buttons."

Ha!

Take the car for a long drive and get that motor good and warm. Then check for yogurt in the oil filler neck.
