Mystery Switch...opinions and guesses wanted
My new to me 2003 996 has a switch between the seat heater switches. Can't tell what it does. I also included a picture of some after market interface wires.
Looks like one is a standard 3.5mm audio and the other not sure (I am not an Apple guy).
I have tried the audio cable and turned the switch on and off and messed with the radio but can't get it do to anything.
Haven't taken it apart yet but that is my next step.
Ideas?
(hopefully it is not lighting up a sign on the back bumper that says doof inside)

My guess is that you've got a Mobridge system installed that will allow you to connect your iPhone or other audio device directly to your head unit. I have a Mobridge system in my car and I have a switch like that. The switch deactivates the Mobridge system and essentially makes it "invisible". I use it when the car goes in for service.
The Mobridge system essentially replaces the CD-changer in the system. By connecting your phone and selecting the CD changer, you should be able to access your music, playlists, etc.

It's is an isimple transit link. It disables your antenna, then you turn the radio to 89.7 and plug in your iPhone and get a clear signal.

It's the IMS disengagement switch. You turn it on to avoid CEF.
I must say, you need to pick up a tooth brush and clean up those nooks and crannys...a lot of stuff there.

The iSimple is the leading candidate here. Will open up the console and see what I find. The switch looks identical.

Well here is the verdict: FM Modulator. Looks pretty old. Hooked up the S4 and got it to work but has low volume. These things are pretty cheap so I might replace it with a better one. 12V power to the other connector which I can replace for a standard USB charger. The main thing is that the cords aren't in the way of the shift linkage. The the install isn't the greatest.
I would like to find the install guide to turn up the gain but that is wishful thinking...

I have an iSimple Tranzit-Blu HF in mine and the way I get full vol out of the stereo is with my iPhone's volume all the way on. Did you check if your S4's volume is all the way on?
Btws if you do replace it with something, I would recommend the Tranzit-Blu HF. The hookup would be the same, and you'll get handsfree phone, music and GPS-Nav.
