I admit I was too much of a wuss to try to catch 6th and go any faster...

After I shut it down, I noticed what looked like smoke behind me - it was a light mist of coolant coming from the pump shaft.

Also noteworthy: Less than 10 minutes later, as I was limping the car back home, a doe and two fawns bounced across the road not 30 feet in front of me. Had I been driving that fast where it was unsafe, rather than in a place where I could actually see for a good half-mile in every direction, I would have had a face full of fresh venison. 100MPH, let alone 150MPH, is plenty fast to make stuff dead, including the driver...

I already had a pump sitting on the workbench, so my week wasn't ruined - it was just repurposed.

OP, I hope your pump came away with impellers intact and you'll be back on the road in no time.
I hope they are intact soon, were yours?

I had a couple that were shaved down, and some of that debris appeared in the drained coolant. I'm about a year out, and the car is running fantastically, so I'm operating under the assumption that all is well.

yeah it seemed a bit steep, and the labor he charged me was more than I think is what it actually takes to do the job

My point is now you have two threads on the same issue. Keep the focus and finish your original post. But on in RL fashion you fit right in.

Good news OP, make sure you are getting new Porsche coolant.

Anyone that wants to join the 150 club can do it at Brained International, come up to one of our DE's or a club race.

Hence the $1100 price. Most mechanics stick to "shop time" for various jobs but their hourly rates vary. If the mechanic is good at what he does and offers good customer service along with either OEM or quality parts, a couple hundred difference shouldn't really matter.

Don't really linger on the price. The bottom line is you got her fixed without any further damage. $1100 is a lot better than the alternative and not totally out of line IMO.
