Default Pricing Guidence

Hello Rennlisters:

The time has come for me to part with my 996. I am keeping the 911 - but I have a baby on the way and wife needs a vehicle upgrade. Short term, that means losing the C4S cab. Long term - it means I will be TT Cab shopping sometime in mid 2015.

Any thoughts on pricing?

wait - you are selling a 996 C4S now and in 6 months plan to buy a 996 TT ?

All because you need to get a new car for your wife?

Something doesn't add up here. Won't the 996 TT cost you more than just keeping the C4S, regardless of what you end up doing for the wife's car?

So a man has convinced his wife to let him get a TT and you want to nitpick the details of that plan? Cmon now. That ain't the way to help a man out.

Ha - ya ok - I can see how that might be confusing. We have 4 cars for two people right now and none of them are great for babies. I am going to sell two of them - the 996 being one - and get my wife squared away and then once things settle down with the babies arrival - I will start looking around for the right TT. I work for myself - so the TT is a nice incentive for me to get out and earn some extra $$$ and maybe even be able to stretch for a 997 TT Cab.

None of that really matters though - the point now - is I am going to sell the 996.

IMHO,
$31K = fairly quick sale,
$38K = top dollar if you stumble upon the perfect buyer.
How much of that $7K middle ground you want depends on your tolerance for craigslist nut-jobs and/or waiting until Spring.

It does sound like a nice car...

Is this your first baby?
Congratulations, you need either an SUV or a large size sedan, every time you go out think about space for stroller, car seat, diaper bag and off course groceries but well that's another thread.
I did a national search for you

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...bar=true&Log=0

this will give you an idea how is the market out there if it was my car and I'm not in a rush to sell it I will go from
$43000 to 38000 minimum, considering your car has 4 owners, 59000 miles, all books and records, no accidents and interior and exterior are in good not perfect condition with a clean top.

Good luck!!

Thank you! Yes it is our first. I am going to keep my 84 for him to learn to drive on when he is old enough Everyone needs to start off on a car without all the computer assists.

Ya we are going with small SUV - my wife is tiny - we will probably pick up a Mercedes GLK off lease - there are a ton of them out here that are 3 years old with less then 30k miles on them and they have a really low loading deck and power tailgates for her.

Given what I paid for the C4S - if I get 35-36k out of it - I am happy.

I just did this, checked into selling because of Cuda's last wknd adventure really got to me. It hit to close to home. I went to two separate Indy guys in the car biz for years. I have a 2003 4CS, lots of stuff w maint records, 42k on the clock. Their numbers were 16k plus 13k back for milage. 29k total and they offered me 22k cash and 25ish to trade for whatever. Of course they are robber barrens and I would have expected no less. I know there's a little more room. I've calmed down and am not selling, but in southern CA the number for cash 2moro is between 22 - 24k. A good deal to someone is just shy of 30k. This is what I found in N county San Diego, thurs of last week-

You put a clean 42K mile C4S on rennlist for anything less than $30K and I bet it sells almost instantly.

If a car sells almost instantly it means it was priced correctly. There will be little to no haggling when you price things correctly.

I just picked up a 2012 4Matic (decent options list, 40K miles, still under warranty, 1-owner who traded in for an Audi).....very happy with it

Maybe priced correctly for the buyer.

This has to be your first baby. Heck I have no children and know the above is just wishful thinking on your part.

Co-workers who did the baby thing told me 8lbs of baby equals about a thousand pounds of baby stuff: stroller, diapers, wipes, formula, water bottles (for Mom), spare changes of clothes (for baby and Mom), and so on. You'll need two SUVs: One to carry the baby and one to follow behind with the all the baby tackle.

Turbo indeed. Maybe a Turbo Cayenne.
