High pitched whine

High pitched whine
I've tried searching for 2 weeks but haven't found where someone said this (I know it's around somewhere ). I occasionally get a high pitched whine when I start the car, but not always. It starts at a slightly lower pitch and goes up to a higher note. Typically when it doesn't make the whine it's at cooler temperatures, nor on a warm start. Is this a water pump issue? What does a chain tensioner issue sound like?
Thank you for your time.

Could be the SAI (secondary air injection) motor.
Common problem.
SAI only operates on a cold start and runs for about 2 minutes. I don't know if outdoor temps make a difference.
Search for SAI threads and see if your symptoms match the description.

My SAI does the same but it's really low pitch sound....only for about 1 minute until car is warm and then goes away...but from other post I see that is common issue....that's easy fix not sure about the spouse part haha...might be a lil harder

The more I give it to her the louder she gets!
But in all seriousness, doesn't last for long. Oh come on!
REALLY. Seriously, it doesn't sound like a vaccuum that SAI posts have talked about. It's more of a clear whine as in not airy sounding. I'll try and take video of it with the engine bay open and see if I can pinpoint better where it's coming from.

If the noise is consistently present at cold engine start you can remove the belt and start the engine. You need only run the engine long enough to confirm the noise is still present or is gone.
If you do this be sure to accurately note the belt's direction of travel and routing so you can install it exactly like it was before. Take pics.
If the noise is not present with the belt removed, then check all accessory drives for excessive bearing play. Give the idler/tensioner rollers a feel for any excessive bearing play, roughness. Check the belt. If one (or both) edges are sharp this is a sign the belt is mis-tracking and this is probably due to an accessory drive with bearing play.
If the noise is present with the belt removed that's something else.

I had a similar sound on my 02 and it went away after a minute or so on a cold start. I followed the KrazyK writeup to repair the SAI and the sound seems to be gone. Easy fix if that is your issue. Unplug the SAI and see if the noise goes away.

High pitched noise through the stereo system
My '99 996 has a high frequency noise that we hear through the stereo system. Factory system with an aftermarket amp had it, recently replaced stereo and amps still have the noise. We've put in filters to no avail. Anyone have a similar issue?

You need RF chokes and a good ground for each piece of equipment. Or your voltage regulator is dodgy.
