Is every Carrera 4 AWD?
Sorry for what seems to be a dumb question, but I am shopping for an AWD 911 and am considering a specific Carrera 4 for sale. But, the listing has it as a RWD. I suppose its technically not incorrect, but is it in fact AWD? The pictures show Carrera 4 on the boot. I ran the VIN and it only comes back as Carrera Coupe (same as any 2001 C4 VIN AWD). I have asked the seller, but haven't received a reply yet, so just thought I'd ask the experts.
So, sorry for the dumb question - just want to make sure it is AWD.

I would amend that to them all originally being AWD from the factory. Some people have converted theirs to RWD. Most of the threads I have read have been by simply removing the front driveshaft in which case it should be simple to make it AWD again as long as there is nothing wrong with the xfer case or front diff/axles.

While technically it is not incorrect from a sales point of view it is an error that overlooks a very important distinctive option that sets a C4 off from a C2.
That the seller has not gotten back to you promptly is also a little fishy. He should have and he should also have corrected the details of the car to reflect it is a C4 with *AWD*.
Ideally, the seller should have supplied you promptly with the above along with some pics that show the car's trunk and undercarriage which shows a cardan shaft present, connected to a front diff and with half shafts connected to the front hubs. And I'd like to see a PIC of the car's actual VIN, too.

While you do need to be careful, all may not be doom and gloom. When I was looking for a 996 I found that many listings on the internet were old and the cars sold and thus the lister was unresponsive in answering questions. The 2001 C4 that I bought was listed as a C4 in the ad title but RWD in the fill-in-the-blanks detail. I think this can and does happen with pre-formatted ads like eBay and some of the other car selling websites. As everyone said, there are a few tell-tale signs that the car is AWD. I stuck my head under the side and looked to see the front half-shaft. Also, you can ask to take the car to the local dealer for a pre-purchase inspection.
Good luck with your search. Mine was almost as much fun as driving the car home the first time.
