Default 996s ..will they ever sky rocket?

I'm on the hunt for another air cooled 911. I'm looking at everything from SC's, 3.2 cars and 964's. I feel temped to consider a 996 though, a C4S or Turbo car in particular. They seem like a lot of bang for the buck. I also feel like I'd be selling out though. Have these things bottomed out yet?

One thing I will say is true about the 996, they look a hell of a lot better in person than in pictures. Pictures do not do these cars justice.

No you shouldn't. At this age the exhaust lube is likely to be dried out which means it's only going to be a few miles before your AOS gives way and takes out the coils. That will be quickly followed by failed signal fluid trashing the IMSB and you don't even want to think about the RMS torque problems.

"Selling out"? Seriously?

I'd take a 996 as my daily driver if I actually needed to drive to work. the 2001 I had for a brief time was quite comfortable and easy to drive around town and the back roads. I had too many cars and for some reason I couldn't part with my 968 so the 996 went instead.

Still aspiring to have a hair salon, eh?

Kidding aside, the depreciation rate on a 968 is benign, especially compared to a 996.

Wait for the exodus of 944 NA owners into 996s. Then you will know they bottomed out.

I had a really clean '87 944S that I traded plus $2.5k for a 996 C2 Tip. Suweet....
I advise to go with the F355 for better reliability.

I keep my 996 in one of those plastic bubble things. I'm banking on it skyrocketing. It's my only retirement planning, so I sure hope this works out.

My 99 left the ground but it would be unfair to the concept of shy rocketing to say it did so.

Just trying to have a little fun. I have no intention to buy a 996. But when looking at the air cooled car prices, the 996's sure are tempting. I have a $20K - $30K budget and honestly all that is important to me is NO RUST and preferably a black dash. If I were to spend any more, I'd have to sell the LS swapped E36, I don't want to do that.

Hmmmm, E36s ..will they ever sky rocket?
