New member Intro
Hello members, I am a new member as of last week and I know the importance of introductions on forums. I am a recent 996 owner, my second Porsche in 40 years, the other a 71 911T I owned for many years. I have considered myself a car guy since I was a teen and own eight cars that I proudly keep enclosed in my several garages. None of my cars are considered of investment quality but do consider it a collection. I enjoy driving most of them intermittingly during different seasons, putting them up for months then reliving that thrill of ownership when I decide to put them back on the road.
I had the good fortune to work for a talented foreign auto mechanic when I was young and used to do most all the work on my cars myself but in the past ten years let talented mechanics do some of the heavy lifting.
I have loved German cars since my first VW. My daily driver has usually been a BMW. Got the bug to revisit owning a Porsche about three months ago.
Due to the grace of a tolerant wife ( one wife, many cars,) it has been a great hunt, a process I truly mostly enjoy. It is an amazing time we live in where one has the resources available with the internet and I was getting three or four emails a day from sites with new and interesting additions
of available cars. Spent many days visiting disappointments, unethical and delusional owners. Gave up twice but kept returning to the hunt because I knew the timing was right and in my experience, in good condition, these cars are very special. I found it amazing that there are probably five hundred
996's for sale at any one time. Prices are low and cash is king.
Bought a 99 C2, one mature owner, all records from dealer, 55K miles for
17K. White w/ savanna beige interior (my 1st choice) Build date of 2/98
so since they only built 14 in 1997, pretty early in the series. PPI and Post PI
showed good overall condition. Issues with sway bar bushings, MAF, horn ring and inoperable rear wing. Perfect southern body without a single rock blemish. Dry as a bone underneath. A clean, well cared for car.
Its important that I thank the members for the wealth of information shared on this forum. It's an amazing resource. I will post pictures as soon as I learn how to do that.
