Default Steering Wheel Upgrade

Hi guys,
I've got a 2000 911 Carrera Cabriolet with the old fashion looking 4 spoke steering wheel. I was looking at upgrading the steering wheel to one of the three spoke Porsche steering wheels off the 2012 model 911.

Has anyone done this? Is it possible to put the new steering wheel in my 911 without losing horn or airbag functionality?

The steering column shafts are different sizes. You would need to address that first.

You can easily upgrade to a 996 three-spoke steering wheel.

Yes the 3 spoke would look great (I"m bias, I have it and love it). I feel the newer P-car wheels are too modern for the 996 with the metal and such. Just my opinion, in for pics if you do it though.

IMO, upgrading to the 996 3-spoke is a waste of money. Unless you're hellbent on staying OEM, go with a Raid or similar steering wheel. Available from Carnewal, brand new, this should cost less than a second-hand 996 3-spoke wheel. The Raid wheel is more ergonomic, fatter, narrower diameter, and extends out a tad farther. It completely transforms and upgrades the driving experience. I went from a 3-spoke wheel to this (picture below), and I couldn't be happier!

Thanks for the info. This seems to be a great alternative for a bit over $600, especially considering it INCLUDES the air bag and can be totally reversible.

That's a nice looking wheel posted on the Carnewal site. Any chance we can use our stock airbags withe the Porsche crest on this aftermarket wheel?

the interior has already been upgraded with all metal trim so it wouldnt look to out of place. I just feel that the car externally has been upgraded to look newer and that the steering wheel is the last thing i need to change, but I want to keep a Porsche wheel as everything else that has been upgraded is Porsche.

so im guessing ill be running into all kinds of troubles if i try upgrade the steering wheel to a newer model? and potentially wouldnt be worth all the headaches?

It uses your OEM 3 spoke airbag and is reasonably priced
