Default New 996 owner hello!

I've been lurking here for a bit but finally picked up my 996 ('03 C2 cab) over this past holiday weekend. Super excited but tons to learn about this car.

My current laundry list for it includes:
- Alignment and wheel balance
- Oil/filter change
- Brake fluid flush + line change
- Coolant flush
- Headlights are fogging a little (not moisture)
- Would like to fit litronic from a donor vehicle somehow but the search seems like it'll be a long one to just find all the components needed.

What else should be on my radar? Looming need to change IMS and water pump/coolant tank? It has 28k miles on it.

Where can I get a good service manual for the '03 996?

Thanks for any info! Cheers!

Welcome... Nice looking car!

The Bentley service manual shown above is more comprehensive, but Wayne's book is much easier to follow, great pictures, and will likely cover everything a typical home mechanic would ever do on a 996. Most of the articles can also be found online, but it's nice to have the book anyway. A bargain (for Porsche books) at $25. The Bentley is ~$150!

Congrats and nice looking cab. I wouldn't worry about water pump unless you see coolant or your light came on then change it. I like the Amber marker lights. All you need to do is put some new tires on it, change the oil, drive it daily and enjoy.

Congrats. I strongly disagree with the previous poster on the water pump. I recommend changing it out now. If the old one breaks up and the bits get stuck in the engine, that would be bad. Change it out periodically.

I second the purchase of this book. In fact, go to this BEFORE going to the Bentley. I have both and use both but the 101 Projects book is the bomb. Plus, spend some time on Pelican Parts' website. Wayne has Porsche Tech Tips on there too!

Change all your fluids, the filters, and then just drive and listen. The car will have no problems telling you what is or isn't wrong. The 996's are fun cars and just drive em. The IMS chatter will drive you crazy, so do like I do and don't let it. Cut and open your oil filter and look for metal shavings and pay attention to signs the car may send you. But otherwise, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your car!!! That's why it was made and that's why you bought it.

Join your local PCA club if you haven't already (which gets you a subscription to PCA mag), plus get a subscription to Excellence magazine; they both have awesome Tech Q&A sections. I always go straight to those sections the moment they come in the mailbox. 996s are awesome cars to enjoy and work on.
