You can get it from Amazon for $4:

i tried inserting the pin but then it blocks the door from being able to close. Do I insert the pin from underneath instead of from above?

I used this exact product for a 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, which is a rebodied Subaru WRX. I replaced the lanyard, instead of the whole cap, because I wanted to retain the Saab-labeled cap (which is now difficult to find) instead of having a Subaru-branded cap. The lanyard works really well. It is thicker than the original, so it doesn't look the same as OEM, but hopefully will last longer.

For a 996, I think I'd just replace the whole cap with strap. Unless I'm missing something, the aluminum one doesn't seem like a good idea because it seems like it will weigh more and be a lot more likely to scratch paint (especially in NJ where we don't have the option to fuel ourselves and are reliant on the attendant to be careful (News flash: they aren't )).

The Aluma-Look is plastic if I recall. Total waist of money if you ask me.

Here's yet one more post, #69 I believe (RIP Nicky Hayden). It's where I keep my emergency key.
