Default My respect for rennlist and the forum members is growing...

As many of you know, I recently bought an Audi SQ5 for my wife's daily driver. We kept her Cayenne S and it is currently seeing duty as an airport mule, dog hauler and hardware store truck. It works well.

The SQ5 is the performance oriented version of the Q5 SUV. It competes directly with the Porsche Macan. We ended up with the Audi for a variety of reasons, and we are happy with it. My thought was that this would be a car geared towards the enthusiast, and there would be lots of great information online in forums.

I went online and joined a few Audi forums to try to learn more about the car and about potential mods to make the ownership experience more enjoyable and personalize the car. The three major forums that I've found so far are: www.audizine.com, www.audiforums.com and www.quattroworld.com. The first one seemed to have promise as it seems to be relatively active. Unfortunately, the main discussion topics are how low you can "stance" your vehicle and how big you can go with wheels. The finished product that people proudly post online looks like a clown car to me. To each his own. The second site gets about 1 - 2 posts per month. The third is one that I just joined, and it seems like good technical information. The posting volume is low, but I think it will be a good resource. Overall, the experience with audi forums has been underwhelming at best.

This experience has made me appreciate this group more. It's not only the information, but the participation and the personalities. The rennlist community is one that I enjoy and one in which I am happy to participate.

In that vein, here's a great mod idea for your Cayenne

^hahaha too funny.

Dennis I have been a member of Audizine for years, still browse the c5 allroad and b5 s4 section and tend to agree. The crowd seems like its getting much younger/dumber (not all just some)-this could be because I'm looking in the threads for $5-15k cars.

There is also AudiWorld and Audifans.org.

AudiWorld was pretty good back in the late 90's and early 00's, not sure about now. But a lot better than Audizine and much more traffic than Quattroworld.

Audifans.org was (is?) more geared to the serious do it yourselfer and probably also the older cars (Ur-Quattro, V8, 4000q etc.). I think it's still kind of a bulletin board format.

All that being said, any forum for a NEW car is more likely to be less tech-y than one for an old(er) car. Especially a new Audi, BMW, MB or Porsche, the current models of which are likely to be leased, not owned. Not until the ownership of the average car changes hands at least once will you see a greater proportion of mechanical-related posts. In other words if you got a new 991 or Macan, you'd probably see similar things on those forums especially from users for which that is their only Porsche.

Yup, all the Q5 sections are pretty much dead on the Audi forums. And what content is there is mostly cosmetic mods...

Too bad really, the latest Q5's are fantastic cars... Great transmission, both the 2.0T and 3.0T gas engines are fun to drive and highly tweakable for more power, nice interior finish and space, good looking for a small SUV. Probably my only complaint is the suspension is just a bit too compliant (probably less so on your SQ), but that's actually pretty easy to address.

The euro forum www.myaudiq5.com seems to have the most interesting content, but not all of it relevant as most members are (obviously) EU.

Most Audi/VW enthusiast forums as of late = slammed, stretch, poke, pull, wide, rare...

You can't escape it. They talk as much about offsets and how low can you go, as much as peeps talk about the IXX here.

.......and those Audi dudes don't like ***** the way we do. I use quattroworld for DIY's when working on my wife's A4. I've found it helpful but I don't frequent the site.

Case in point, my friend's ride with FULL Caractere kit. But he also has H&R CO with Stasis suspension and Exhaust components. Also a bunch of go fast goodies making it slightly faster than sq5.

When I was an Audi believer, I spent time on Audiworld and found lots of enthusiasts on the TT board, but that was 8 years ago.

That is what I have found as well. Rennlist has the best decorum and is more about enthusiasts helping each other. Less about flashing money around and more about "Car Guys" stuff.

PS: Dennis I still have your 4S lip in the garage

I need to come by and get that Tim. Are you doing the Peak to Peak drive this weekend by any chance?
