Default 996 Engine Machine Shop Advice

Hello everyone,

Just took the engine apart and discovered 3 scored cylinders (#3, #4 and #5)....can anyone recommend a machine shop on the east cost that is experienced with 996 sleeve installs and can do it for a reasonable price?

I would love to install "Nickies" from LN/Flat6, but it's not within my budget...

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

I have to ask, 3, 4, 5? You sure about that?

3 would be on one bank and 4 and 5 would be on the other. Most of the stuff I read says it's usually on bank 2 in 5 and 6 cylinders since those are the cylinders are the hottest.

Yea Mike, it's odd. #6 was spotless while #4 and #5 were scored pretty deep. The damage was parallel to the crankshaft, on the inner side of the block. Unfortunately, #3 was scored as well. Not as bad as #4 and #5, but catches the finger nail easily... The damage was perpendicular to the crankshaft on #3, towards the front of the engine.

stjoh, dcdrechel, and Zookie....Thank you for taking the time to respond to my request. I really appreciate your advice! I am going to reach out to Forsche-Land and get a quote. I will also look up rallydogracing posts.

Guys, any idea if anyone other than LN and Flat6 (and the 2 shops in England)offer Nickies type sleeves? Any thoughts on cast iron sleeves?

I have "stjoh"'s car now and I can tell you that the motor is alive and well, it survived a 13 hour drive back home, lively weekend drives and one very spirited ralley run. The whole time the water temp never went over the 190/195 range... and mostly stayed at the 180 zone. I have never seen a spot of oil on the ground... yes I have cardboard under the car just to check for this... and the fluids are exactly on the mark every time I check them. I am super pleased with the folks at Forsche-Land ! They did a great job rebuilding my motor and would highly recommend them!

what material is Forsche-Land re-sleeving with? Approximate cost per cylinder/engine?(PM is fine)
Anyone use LASleeve?
Thinking about picking up a tired/dead C2/C4 for a daily in the future....
TIA,
Rob

Not sure I didn't opt for Resleeve, I opted for a Good Used Half Case

They send the Blocks to Europe to get Resleeved which makes the turn around time a lot longer, something I didn't want to wait for.

I paid $8000 (M96 Engine Price) for a Complete Rebuild, this was not a REFRESH but a complete Rebuild

Paid Extra $500 for Cylinder Head Port and Polish

thanks Zook!
I'd be doing the rebuild myself, just interested in a proven resleever(and known piston/ring combo) for the m96's
Cheers,
