Default Red light over temp guage

I am not really sure if you would call it the temp guage, but this morning when I left my house, I noticed that the red light over the zero of the highest temperature began to flash. I first looked at the temperature and it read normal, but the red light continued to flash for the five miles that I drove. I was at my destination for about 15 minutes and when I left, the light was no longer flashing. I searched the manual, but I could not find anything. Anyone know what that was all about

Checked coolant level? Depending on the blinking frequency, it means diff things. I think it's documented in the repair manual.

Found it. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...light/?p=36214

Coolant level low. After running a while the coolant expanded and the light went off. Probably the cap leaking. But have the car checked out. It could be a coolant tank leak or a leak from someplace else.

Have you cleaned the radiator ducts lately?

Agree with others...check your coolant level and replace your cap. Check underneath for any obvious leaks. The thread Ashai points out tells you what the blinking light means. Do not ignore and expect it to go away....check things visually.

That light can have a scary outcome. Chances are just low on coolant. Check and make sure it is only coolant in your overflow .

C'mon Pete, quit the fear mongering. Oh btw, hope that you don't have debris like water pump blade stuck in one if your cylinder head coolant passages.

Just want to clarify, the joke was directed at the OP based on your response. I def don't want to jinx you in any way now that your motor is healthy once again. I'm still waiting until the day I have to bend over without the lube but hey we just gotta learn to laugh at these things or we'd go insane.

There is another instance not shown in the Renntech thread which I have experienced. Light flashing slowly and needle to left means temperature is too low. This may occur on tiptronics during warm up if the engine takes too long to reach operating temperature. In my case it was caused by early opening of the disc valve on the tiptronic heat exchanger.

Did your engine fan stay on for while after you turned the car off? The blinking red light means it could be 3 different things depending on how it flashes. 1. low coolant level 2. engine compartment over temp 3. malfunctioning rear fan.

Sometimes a small twig from a tree will fall in to the rear fan trough the opening on the tail (GT3) and prevents the fan from operating. Had that happen a few times and that gives you a blinking light plus a message of fan failure.

Right you are. For the Turbo, too. There is a 2nd engine compartment fan fuse that when installed has the engine compartment fan running all the time. I read it is to turn the fan on with more torque with the intent to overcome the resistance of the twig or plant trash interfering with the fan coming on. It appears that if the fan is started only when the engine compartment temperature rises to some threshold the starting torque of the fan is not sufficient to overcome the twig.

My Turbo has the fuse installed and the engine compartment fan runs all the time the engine is running.
