Default Where is this insulation coming from?

Some insist there is no insulation anywhere on the 996 ventilation system but I have chunks of it flying out of my vents now. Especially in the area of the windshield defroster.

So my question is, where is this coming from? Can I remove it proactively so it doesn't spit out all over my interior?

Interestingly enough, I remember my old 944 started doing the same thing at one time as well.

some brand of cabin air filters have foam surrounding the outer sealing edges, not a lot of foam there but perhaps a source? Heater cores can also have a high-temp foam surrounding the cores to seal airflow..

It's coming from the A/C recirculation door. Very common problem. Mine has been doing it for a couple of years and has finally stopped because all the insulation has come off. There are a couple of threads on it both here and Renntech. Gator has recently fixed his, so search his posts and you should find his repair.

I purchased several pair of long (8" or so) forceps (tweezers) from Harbor Freight for not more than about $5. I just blast the A/C on high and pull the insulation out of the vent slats with the forceps. I've my shop vac at the ready to clean up the bits and pieces.

I figure I'll eventually get it all.

Thanks everyone. I'll do a search and see if I can proactively address the problem. If not then I guess I'll be vacuuming up a lot more often for a while.
