I just got my GT3.
And my gf wants to drive it.
Am I being a chavanist a hole, cause I'm not too keen on anyone driving my cars, period.
What do you guys do?

Make sure you pad up the front with something small like a king size mattress or as a matter of fact pad the whole car. Well since it's new-very hard for me to have anyone drive the car but then again with S.O. in question let her drive going down a hill for one block on Neutral : ). Seriously though if she knows how to drive a stick and Porsche let her. Regards. Mike

 

Well...........Yes, I do let her drive it. She, however, is an understanding wife, and realizes that this is "Palting's Toy". She has driven it a grand total of 2 times since I've had the car, just to prove to her friends and to herself that she can. And I let her drive it anytime. I even told her she can drive it at autocross and DE, which she politely declined, then asked for a 911 cab of her own!!!!!

 

Palting:...hahaha... perhaps not driving the car gets better reward ^___^

RR: I'll let my gf/wife drive my car only if I know that she's conservative driver, and not those ruthless kind that will try to drive fast fast and faster... If she doesn't know how to drive stick? forget it@_@...I've give her a honda civic to practice with....

 

I guess I am lucky. My wife don't drive stick.. Nor does she have any interest to learn!!!! thank god.

I've got no problems w/ my long time Gal driving either P-Car. We both did our 1st DE @ Watkins Glen w/ the 996! We now both still do DE's in the 964 and "make" errands for weekend runs around town.

Anytime she wants. That has translated to zero drives since I've owned the car. I think it is the gesture, more than anything.

 

Yep well my wife drives it when she want to. I have no quibble with this at all. She is a great driver and very courteous. She parks it sensibly and rides the clutch well and has a clean license which is a lot more than can be said about mine. She loves driving it but has a nice car of her own....an alfa romao 145 cloverleaf twinspark.....She prefers to drive her own car most of the time but it don't bother me either way.

 

My experience tracks that of adscab911. If you think she's a keeper its probably important for the relationship to make the gesture. But be prepared. How much she ends up wanting to drive it (knowing how uncomfortable it makes you) could tell you something about the girl you didn't want to know, and maybe somethiing you don't want to live with.

 

Maybe if I had a Carrera, but a GT3.........just be real with her, say this is 1 of 400 built, if you f*** it up it's not like I can go down to the dealership and pick up another one.

 

I offer all the time and she refuses. She says she is worried that it might be too much car for her. I don't know why. She used to drive my 993 and loved it. She has driven sticks for many years and prefers them.

 

You have to realize its just a car.. and everything is fixable and replaceable... personal feelings are worth more then material items...

She gets to drive it whenever she wants, not that that happens very often, but as Kevin said, its just a car. If I wanted it to stay pristine I'd keep it in the living room on a revolving pedastel. Let's face it someone could hit me as easily as they could hit her.
