Question: In that photo it shows the OEM airbox snorkel sticking up. I assume they aim it at the cone filter but how is it supported?

I have had same on my car for almost as long as I've owned it (9 years).
Not sure if I noticed any power increase, but sounds nice.....

The snorkel feeds air to the metal K&N airbox (for lack of a better term) in which the filter sits.

5CHN3LL - have you had a chance to drive it? Any initial seat is the pants assessment?

I won't have a chance to install it until midweek next week, so my only impressions so far is that it looks nice...

Your results will be interesting but not necessarily applicable to others due to the other mods you appear to have that potentially affect output as well. I also note that the K+N chart posted is for the 3.6, I believe you have the 3.4, do they have a chart for that as well? Not ******* on your plan at all, just pointing out differences. Your baseline dyno pull will be interesting to compare to K+N's baseline.

I'm guessing it will be next to nothing on the dyno. I have the EVO and didn't notice anything. The only reason I bought it was the previous owner broke the factory airbox mount nub and it wouldn't stay in place. IMO, they only belong or FI.

Yes I assumed that. I was asking how the snorkel was supported....

Wow, how obvious & simple, but I never thought of it. If at the same RPM, the MAF shows the same airflow, then its doing nothing. If there's more, then there has to be more HP at that spin. I also look forward to the results.

A warning about the KN. One the oil on the cone filter will kill your MAF sensor. Get the dry filter with the mesh. Also I had the unit on my car for a week and took it off. The car off the line will suck in hot air and it killed the performance off the line. Then on the highway it would work great and sound great. So to me it wasn't worth it. It did sound great but not much HP gain. I have a 3.8 upgrade when the IMS went. Got new pistons and sleeves from LM engineering. I ended up getting the 3.8 Stock 997 air box. Looks and sounds great.

The issue is over-oiling. Most people don't read the instructions and saturate the filter. K&N makes a spray now to eliminate some of the issue with improper oiling.
