Doesn't seem to have much info in there for pre-2001 996's. If you look at the listing of all 400,000-odd cars, there are only 104 listings for 1999 - 2000. My car wasn't in there either.

KoB is right on. Mine had no record, so I searched on all 1999 C4 coupes. Only two hits, neither of which were mine. Cool tool for those lucky enough to find their cars though! Very curious as to what determines which cars are in the database and which are not.

I searched the database more closely and found only 104 VINs listed before Model Year 2001.
(2 vehicles listed for 1995, 0 for 1996, 24 for 1997, 12 for 1998, 29 for 1999 & 37 for 2000)
The entire list contains 435,641 entries up to and including the new 2015 Macan Turbo.
