Default Trying out Bridgestone S-04

The Bmw m-club guys swear by them - they're on sale at tire rack for a set of four of around $830 - too good to pass up- will let you all know what they're like.

Local tire shop matched online pricing and gave me a break on mounting and alignment

More to come

I mean it's about forty percent cheaper than the michelins... With such poor wear on rears... This is sounding like a no brainer

No brainer indeed at that price.

I've had my fair share of high performance tires including the previous generation of S-02 and S-03. Although I haven't owned a set of S-04's yet, I plan to when my current tires wear down after driving a couple friend's cars that had them on.

Great price. I have a set on now as the retailer couldn't get Michelin's last year. They have provided more than enough grip for what I need; getting a little noisy as they are at the wear bar now (rears) but that is only a nit-picky comment. Overall I like them and would purchase another set without hesitation.

This is a common complaint/attribute amongst a few different Bridgestone tire models. Some are worse than others and can happen anywhere from 50% worn onwards. Glad to see you haven't noticed it until closer to the wear bars.

I have a set and am happy with them too. They made some noise when they were new, to a point I thought my wheel bearings are failing. Once worn a bit, they are pretty quiet though....maybe before they become sigificantly worn.

I'm glad to hear that they stay quiet until they are basically shot, loud tires are annoying. I drive in the rain enough that I don't typically stick with tires until they get that worn, so I'll probably be very happy with these.

I'm running S-04s after I needed a set of tires for an event last fall and Michelins were out of stock nationally.

I really liked tracking them at VIR and the ride on public roads is decent. Great grip and rain performance. It's nice they're $300+ cheaper than the Michelins too. I didn't regret getting them at all.

Spinout, thanks for the on-track performance impressions of the S04's. I haven't come across too many 996 owners that have used them on the track yet. I guess that's even a better bonus.

I, too, am running SO4s and would buy them again. Two DEs and a daily driver; they have performed well. I can't say that they are noticeably better than the S02s (previous tire). As most have said, good tires and a great price - hard to beat.

Update - they flat spot very easily and need 8 miles to work itself out and get smooth again
On road crowns they get very floaty

Now I am comparing them against my old michelins that cost $650 more per set
I guess you do get what you pay for - for the price they're not bad but if price is no object I would stay with michelins which is probably what I will do come replacement time

My car has S04s on it, and I really like them. They're pretty quiet, grip is awesome for aggressive street driving (no track time on them), and they are surprising good in the rain/cold.

The S04? What tire pressure are you running?
