996 2004 4s - need advice
Hi - first post here. thanks in advance for help.
I'm looking for advice on an intake kit for my 2004 4s, and also opinions on fabspeed products.
I looked at Fabspeed's intake and also K&N. The price difference is signifiant (2x for Fabspeed) but the claimed HP gains look to be about the same.
I'm also looking to either go with the muffler bypass for a more aggressive sound, or maybe the Supercup exhaust system or the Maxflow exhaust system.
The other thing I'm considering are catbypass x-pipe.
The goal is a bit more hp and aggressive sound.
Anyone have experience with Fabspeed?
Again, thank you for help.

I had the V-flow intake on mine. It sounded awesome. I have no indication that it added any power.
A decent percentage of people who install intakes wind up removing them, some because of the perceived issues with MAF sensors dying.
I would opt for an exhaust component before an intake.

I have a 4S with both the FabSpeed exhaust and their older intake. I am happy with both products, but I purchased them dirt cheap from the For Sale section. Your a day late, a FabSpeed exhaust sold yesterday on 6Speed. I can't say I noticed much of a performance increase, maybe a little, but it sounds much better!

If you are looking for an exhaust setup for a street car, I would recommend staying away from the Supercup. The Supercup is mostly pretty aggressive for street driving. The Maxflo and the Catbypass X-pipe would be a nice in between for a nice sporty sound that isn't too aggressive and annoying. The intake also makes an absolutely amazing sound on acceleration

Hi Evan,
What about just doing the muffler bypass pipes, to get a more aggressive sound?
For others:
I've also read something about tricking the PSE so that you gain the sports exhaust sound at lower rps? I may be describing this incorrectly - sorry.

I have the fabspeed x pipe without cat coupled with the factory PSE exhaust and it gets loud. You lose some low end which I felt immediately but gain some on top. If I had to do it again, I would do the x pipe with cat or keep the stock cats.
The consensus on intakes are inflated HP gains but better sound.

Intakes will make it sound faster. I have an Evolution Motorsports V-Flow, love the sound but I don't think I gained any performance. I bought it used in the classifieds from another Rennlister for about 1/2 price.
Fabspeed makes top notch stuff, but it's not cheap. The Fister mod makes a great noise, but you don't get any other benefits like lighter weight cans.

The muffler bypass alone will DEFINITELY get you an aggressive exhaust note! That is a set up that I like to refer to as... ermm.. not girlfriend approved.

I ordered the Fabspeed muffler bypass pipes for my 4s. Once I get them installed, I'll upload a video.
thanks for the advice.
p.s. My wife doesn't know I'm doing this, nor does she care. She's never liked the car because she doesn't get it........if you understand me.

The supercups aren't that loud. I run those along with cat bypasses and I think the sound is just perfect. I even wish they were a tad louder. If you want a more aggressive sound then don't go with anything other than the supercups; especially if you're still running factory cats. The other mufflers are too quiet.....
