Default Mixing Michelin tires

My PS2s are done after 8k miles in rear. Front looks new. I want to switch to Pilot Sport A/S. This is for a daily driver, no tract. Thinking about just putting PS on the rear and leaving PS2s on the front. Bad idea?
Thanks

I wouldn't. I can tell you that the 996 is VERY sensitive to just tire pressures being incorrect.

I wouldn't do it for reason of summer tires on one axle and A/S on the other. Completely 2 different treads.

Sharky......long time no post......

I was thinking the same but decided to just cough up the dough for new ps2's out back. Im not a fan of cheaping out on tires, especially on this car.

Leave the PS2's on the front. Replace the rears with Michelin Super Sports. You'll be just fine. And get an alignment and a quality tire guage. You should be getting more like 10-12,000 miles on the rear, at least.

This comes up constantly. For a daily driver absolutely mix tire models and tire brands. No one on this forum will present a lick of data to refute it.

After doing a search, it looks like for my style of driving the Conti DWS all seasonal may be the way to go. They should get through the winters, no tract, and not getting close to any performance limits.

I came up on a deal I couldn't pass up on getting new tires also. I paid $400 even for 4 brand new Pirellis', however the fronts are run flat and the backs are just regular Rossos'. You guys think it will effect the drive and handling, as run flats are little heavier than just regular.

I think there are two important factors when mixing type and brand of tires.
One is the stickiness or grip.
The other is the stiffness of the sidewalls.
Either one of these factors can cause the front and back to handle differently and might be noticeable, and in the extreme it might cause an instability in the handling that would not be present if all four tires were the same.
Of the two factors, I believe a difference in sidewall stiffness would be most evident in normal driving as turn-in tire reaction is greatly affected by sidewall stiffness.

Decided to keep the front unworn PS2s, in my garage. Got 4 new Conti DWS all season. This is for a daily driver. I put on 16k a year so the tire is half the price and may get 2-3x the miles. So far with 300 miles they feel softer more comfortable without feeling every bump in my teeth like the PS2s. For my non track needs they should be fine. I do note the steering is not as crisp. Do not think that will be a deal breaker.
If it does not work out, I will go back to summer tire, like the Michelin Super Sport for all four.
