Silicone intake hose with resonator bypass... Very inexpensive, sounds awesome. Personally, I far prefer a mean intake growl over a loud exhaust.

'Kit' prices are all over the place. I'd suggest buying an inexpensive silicone hose on eBay, upgrade to top quality t-bolt hose clamps for the new hose if the supplied clamps look cheesy, and a simple $2 rubber pipe cap for the resonator cap.

This one on eBay looks fine for $32.50 and some nice t-bolt hose clamps
on Amazon on Amazon
for $6. Double check the size...

The EVOMS intake I had also had drainage holes, so neither intake is completely sealed from engine compartment heat. Additionally, the seal on the EVOMS intake does not effectively seal the box against the bottom of the deck lid. Had I kept the intake, I was going to cut a 1/4" plexi piece to more effectively seal the EVOMS airbox.
The holes also kill suction in the box from air pressure, promoting better flow. I have a fixed wing and made up an alum air diverter for the top vent that provides a bit of a ram air effect into the factory intake - mostly works at high speed of course. The one thing I did for water (considering the wing vent slot can grab water) is I put in a small hole at the bottom of the bend in the OEM tube before it goes into the box just so water would have a chance to flow out instead of getting into the box. I've got the silicon hose and resonator removed with cap.

I put in a Fabspeed CAI kit soon after replacing my dead cats with Fabspeed's x-pipe unit and the combination performs well and sounds incredible. I got a few more HP on the dyno (presumably all from the cats). Plus the CAI opens up my engine compartment a lot; much easier to find my way around in there.

But the sound's the thing ... when I hit WOT in an underpass I instantly get a big smile, a boner, or both.

This is joe from Fabspeed Motorsport USA.
Way back in 1999 I dyno developed an upgrade kit for all the factory Porsche 996 air boxes. Many grand am Koni and continental GT professional race car teams used my 996 stock air box pieces and found +8HP to +10hp with a BMW f1 air filter.

It's real significant power tat is no bull****.

The key parts are a 996 airbox coverlid internal muffler delete thermoformed plastic piece that is held in by 2 Philips screws. There is a ridiculous helm hoots muffler in each and every Porsche 996 stock OEM air box retained by 3 screws. It blocks half of the air filter .
Next I designed a smooth 4 ply silicone hose to connect the throttle body to the Mass air sensor. Smooth and chamfered on each end so no boundary layer turbulence. The fabspeed Maxflo cold air kit works and enhances any Porsche 996 air box. I have an explanation video on my website demonstrating the system with dyno data.

The key to the system is Removing the stupid internal muffler in the air box and also installing the correct internal chamfered hose. Othe ebay people sell regular hoses and rubber caps to seal in the air box muffler and these parts will not work so don't assume everything is equal.

Last year I dyno developed a super high flow carbon Y pipe for the 996 through 997.2 cars and made a carbon heat shield and this system works great and is a big advantage over any factory stock OEM Porsche air box. Dyno developed and untouched dyno results.

Either of these systems at the racetrack will gain you many car lengths and passing power over the stock system I have been selling these systems and Especially the carbon fiber Competition Y pipe intake to racers and street , de drivers for years.

Even for street cars it makes the car sound great and feel like new!

Cruise by fabspeed Motorsports and try one and or we will have everything at the Hershey Swap meet.
