Default Frunk won't open :(

Help......My frunk (front trunk) won't open. I can hear the latch mechanism moving when I press the key/latch button, but it won't pop up. Is there any other way to open the front lid? I followed the manual on how to open the lid when you have low battery but it still won't open. Searching guidance from the gurus. Thanks.

Get your fingers under the hood and pull up. The spring on the hood latch mechanism that causes the lid to pop up is either broken or has come off the landings. Once you get it open by lifting, remove the hood latch mechanism and check the spring. Good idea to re-route the emergency release cable to behind the tow hook button while into all this.

Thanks DBJoe996, will try that this weekend. My only concern is that my fingers are not small enough to go under the hood. It's like prying a close hood, since it has not even move even though I can hear the latch mechanism being activated.

I agree, 2 person job, but try this: push down on the front of the frunk near the latch to unload the spring pressure. Then, have the 2nd person push the release button. Now release the pressure and lift. If it doesn't come up, insert a hooked piece of plastic or pry using a plastic utensil like a heavy spoon or spatula. Put a cloth against the paint to protect it.

Or, if the release mechanism cable is broken or has come disconnected, you might need to locate the manual release cable that is most often found behind the wheel well liner unless someone has already relocated it to a more handy location. I think your owners manual will note this manual cable.

The manual release is a real PITA to reach. Hopefully it will open when you try it in a few days. Mine behaved the same way but would open the next day. After doing that several times I had to revert to the manual release cable.

I recommend replacing the actuator. I did it last summer. It's an easy job and fixes it for the next ten years...

Check your hood struts as well. When those wear out they don't have enough tension to lift the hood up after the spring releases.

One indication that the strut is starting to fail is getting hit in the head by the lid.

I have a permanent dent in my head from this lesson.

apologies for bumping an old thread, but does anybody have the part number or picture of the aforementioned 'actuator'? i have the same symptom where i can hear the mechanism when pressing the key or switch, but the frunk doesnt pop.

i found this: Part #: 996-511-053-03-M100, which i may try.

2004 turbo.
