One thing I have noticed in regards to SB and other products like that is if you don't keep a steady foot, your mpg's can go down in urban commuting.

Red is definitely a bit too twitchy for me, but that's probably because I have a tip, and on red I tend to get unexpected down shifts. Since it's winter now, I typically keep it off until car gets to temp, then switch to green.

All I can say is try it...

Buy it on Amazon, return it if you also don't go from highly skeptical to top five mod.

Can somebody provide the part number for the 3 mode version for a tiptronic. I have seen conflicting part numbers and images on amazon. Don't want to purchase the wrong one.
Cheers

For my 2004 six-speed, I ordered the SBPO0031S,
Amazon part number B006DWWJ58 Amazon part number B006DWWJ58

For a tipronic 996, I think you want SBPO0032S,
Amazon part number B006DWWLHE Amazon part number B006DWWLHE
.

There was no description on the Amazon product page that indicated it was the newer model with the three mode switch, and the picture showed no switch, but it was indeed the right part with the remote switch for my six speed. I suspect you will also get the latest/correct part for your tip...

It's too bad Amazon doesn't still have them at $219.

I was a skeptic initially because the SB marketing leaves a lot to be desired..... We tried one in our Cayman S and were sold. Porsches have lazy e -throttles (like most cars do) to enhance EPA ratings. Have sold over 200 of these over the last few years. All who bought one thought they enhanced the driving experience.

They don't make more power, even though some vendors thought they should do before and after dynos...lol). But they do make the throttle more linear like the good old days of cable throttles. They do make heel/toe down shifting easier as you get more throttle plate movement vs throttle pedal movement. The "race" mode is really for the boy race crowd, but the sport setting is great. It has better throttle response than an ECU tune with "sport pedal" option.

Does it make HP? NO
Does it make the car faster? NO
Does it improve the driving experience? YES

To each their own, but for a few hundred, it is a pretty good mod....

you can use manual version for tip and vice versa.
Manual version is more "sensitive" than tip version for each green and red.
If you have a manual and don't want it to be too sensitive, you can install the tip version

Any good ideas for the location of the small switch? Nicely finished/incorporated into the trim? I was thinking maybe in the ashtray.

Most people just double-side tape to the plastic trim of the knee bolster, it's not something you would fiddle with all the time, likely just to switch between street and track, so it doesn't have to be visible or easily accessible to you while driving.

I thought about the ashtray as well, but the cord isn't quite long enough. I was too lazy to build an extension and route the wires, so it's just stuck to the side of the lower center console. You wouldn't notice it unless you were looking, but the led color (mode) is visible at a glance.

I like mine. Makes the car feel more like what I was expecting when I purchased it. I leave mine on red and never touch it. Ted

Just installed. Well worth the money.bChanges the whole feel of the car when set to red. Green will be the new normal drive mode.

It's a good mod. But with the X51 engine and the different factory throttle mapping that it comes with, green feels like red used to feel on the M96 engine. I've only used red mode once or twice since the engine swap.
