Default Frunk release dead battery

I removed my battery from the car to charge it at home as it was complety dead. Now I can't get to my frunk to put it back in. There is some confusion regarding the 99 frunk release so that's why my thread.

So there is no battery in the car, I can open the doors and get into the car. I am not sure where my trunk wire is. Don't remember if I moved it or not, I am assuming factory placement is on the passenger side.

There is no fuse hookup in the 99? I am assuming I could find that frunk fuse and do my own rewire?

There are people claiming that 99 should open without the battery. Not the case both releases are "locked". I think its alarm locked?

It is good to have this up. Doesn't help OP much, no terminal in 1999s.
Take the cover off the levers and push the locking lever over manually like shown in post #21 of the referenced thread.

My '99 has a mechanical release trunk...

But my dad has an '02 Boxster, and he was able to use an old cigarette lighter plug, cut the wires, and attach it to a battery to energize the system enough to release the trunk.

So does OP. The lock solenoid was activated before the battery died. He can't pull the lever(s) up. How do you open your lids when the battery dies after you have locked them?

How did you get the frunk open the first time if the battery was dead ? You must have unlocked it to do that with the little juice that was left. With the battery out you would not be able to re lock the car, so the releases should work on the 99.

I have a '99 and my battery died. I used the terminals in the engine bay to open the front trunk. My car does not have a mechanical lock.

Maybe I wasn't clear. Using an old accessory plug that goes into the cigarette lighter socket, strip the wires and plug the thing in. Then using something like a jump box, grab each of the stripped wires with the alligator clamps. This will feed 12 volts into the car's system and you can lift up the trunk release switch and have it activate the solenoid. If you have access to the engine compartment, you can put your jump box right on the jumper cable lugs.

(If you're using the cigarette lighter socket, you might even be able to use a 9v battery...)

Doesn't the '99 have the frunk release cable up under the wheel well lining like in the later versions?

'99 is dead center under the front bumper cover. You can see the wire hanging, grab it with a coat hanger.

You can see how I routed it afterwards to make accessing it easier

Thanks, WhiteOut. For the life of me, I don't get why Porsche had made access to these cables so difficult.

What is this lock solenoid? Very few people mention it and insists 99 trunks are all mechanical. While my experience is no battery no access to trunks. The car was sitting in water/snow slush so digging up the cable was my last option. But it had to be done and it was easy to see from the bottom of the car, even though I think I re-routed it to the light at some point, but could not find it when I needed it.

Thanks for all the help and happy holidays to all!
