Default iPod cable suggestions

Hello All. Any suggestions for an iPod adapter cable for the factory audio system? According to the window sticker I have PCM II; Navi w/ radio and I also have the factory 6-disc changer. Thank you.

I got the Scosche IPFMRDS and could not be happier. Mine is not a daily driver, so super tight integration with iPhone, etc was not necessary. In short, the device plugs in line with the FM antenna receiver. So it comes through the FM part of the stereo, but since it is hardwired, there is no distortion or static. It charges my iPod as well, and everything else is still intact; I have access to my FM channels, CD changer, etc. I have a stock NAV, and it also works well with that. About $150, installation wasn't trivial, but not difficult, and, if planned well, takes less than an hour.

agree with above Keytohwy, I got my scosche after reading posts on here. Couldn't be happier. Look up my post by searching my username. There's a cable that's not included but you can get for like $20 you'll need. Anyway, this is the best option with really good sound quality, all the while maintaining the stock head unit (which i like)

Thanks all for providing my options. I just inherited my son's iPod and my eyes are now open to a whole new world.....I know, a little late in the game but that Beta debacle during childhood prevented me from rushing into the iPod world. Tee hee. Thanks again.

For non-ipod folks, is there a simple 3 mm cable to device solution?
Thank you.

For my wife, I'm getting her a Dension thing-a-ma-jig for her Passat. It will plug in to the head unit and mimic the 6-disk changer so she can connect her iPhone.

The website sucks, but they're good on the phone. I'm unclear if they make a product that works with MKI 996s...

I installed the Becker cable and it both charges and plays the iPod. The only issue is that when you turn off the car, it keeps charging the iPod until your battery dies. So I rewired mine so that it stops charging the iPod when the car is turned off. However, it does not turn off the iPod, which means that you have to manually put into pause.

Do any of the other cables pause the iPod and turn it off when the car is turned off?

The Scosche pauses when the car is turned off and does NOT charge.

Default Got one too

I got one of these Scosche units as well from my wife for Christmas...I was wondering, did you stick your unit in the dash out of sight, or in the glovebox? Looked like from a cursory glance dipswitches may have to be changed frequently, and there appeared to be a USB port for software updates? Also, I understand there is an antenna adapter required...do you know which one? Thanks!

I have the Becker CDR220 Ipod cable for my 996. It worked perfectly with my Ipod Touch. I received a monster capacity Ipod Classic for Xmas as I filled the Touch. Unfortunately, the Classic makes a whistling sound as soon as it connects. Has anyone else encountered this? I plan on calling Becker tomorrow about it.

No whining sound on my Becker cable, but I have an 8gb ipod Touch connected to the radio.
