Default Original floor mats

I had to have the carpeting replaced (don't ask!) and after the work had been done I noticed that the new carpet did not have the matching Velcro that keep the mats in place.

Does this mean these mats were added afterwards? Which would mean the Velcro comes with the mats and is installed then? And how are the Velcro pieces mounted to the carpet? (I don't have access to the old carpet.)

Thanks for any insight that can be shed!

Tom

When I got new floormats, they came with plastic velcro pads that "screwed" into the carpet. The underside of the matching floormat velcro looks just like your picture above.

I agree with the screw in comment, I can recall them coming loose at some point in the past.

Where did you get your carpet from? I need to replace just one section behind my back seats.

I had the same issue when I bought my 2000 Carrera in 2011.
The parts guy just gave me the screw in attachments when I asked about them.
They were on the drivers side but not on the passenger side. Very easy to install.
I can't imagine they cost much, even at the Porsche dealership....

They don't. I bought a couple this summer ... IIRC they were about 10 bucks apiece.

Sorry for the delay in reading this. Had to start a new job!

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that they weren't available or were expensive.

@Puppy: I had to get the carpet from Germany! Took forever! Back story: Unprecedented rain storm overwhelms the internal gutter system (really poor design in my view) and floods driver and passenger side floors. I didn't think insurance would pay for it, but the Porsche dealer (Huntington, NY. Nice service manager) suggested I try. He had 10 or 11 other cars in for the same problem from the same rainstorm (including some Cayenne's???). My insurance paid for the new carpeting, control module, and two new keys. Had to special order carpet from Germany because they are "made to order". This all happened right before we moved from NY to GA, so the wait was agonizing!

Thanks for the reply, exactly what I feared. There are lots of options for carpet replacement on the air cooled cars (been there, done that) but nothing for the 996. The ledge just behind the rear seats has been eaten down to the backing by some sort of spill, that small portion of carpet new from Porsche through Pelican is $350. Ouch.

Totally OT, but any interest in a brand new 4-piece set of Lloyd's Rubbertite custom fit rubber mats in light gray to match and protect your new interior? I just received them from Pelican and have now decided that I'd like more two-tone inside, I'm going to order a new set in black as well as have my rear center console painted metallic black (body color). I would do $85 shipped, so you save $20 over Pelican new pricing.

You can choose the type of car mats you need and can have them customized.

If you want to order those plastic Velcro pucks on-line, the correct Porsche-speak is "fastening plate for floor mats." The part # is 986 551 985 00 ... looks they're five bucks or less, so maybe not worth it unless you're ordering something else.

Good luck with the new job.

My carpet pucks came with my car when purchased but they were never installed, hence no holes to screw them into the carpet. I don't want to mess up the carpet by making a newbie error. Has anyone done the puck install? Is it as simple as poking guide holes then screwing in the pucks? I tried just twisting the pucks in but the plastic I the pucks isn't strong enough to penetrate the carpet.

I have always found Porsche factory mats to be thin and of fairly low quality for the price. I have Cocomats for both the 911 and my wife's BMW cabrio. They are about the same price, of far better quality, and look great. They can also add color to the sometimes monochrome 996 interior. The dark red dots on my black mats almost perfectly match the Orient Red of the car. Finally, the small bits of debris that you see on regular darker mats simply falls into the coco fibers, easily shaking out later. So my black mats don't show every little pebble or dirt the comes off my shoes.

I have gotten numerous compliments on the look and several friends in PCA have bought Cocomats after seeing mine.

Just make sure you get the real ones, made to order in South Carolina. Don't fall for the cheap foreign ones sold through some of Porsche cataloges and websites.

Dude, no.

Attractive though they may be, your mats are not custom cut for Porsche. Companies like Cocomats have the exact template for hundreds of cars. For mine they specifically asked if the car was a coupe or cabriolet to ensure they were correct. The mats are a perfect fit.

Good luck with your business - and perhaps check the Rennlist rules concerning commercial advertisement.

I ordered Lloyds mats ... they don't have velcro, but rather a connector that snaps into something, but I don;t see where the receiver for that is in my '02 ... anyone have that problem before ?

Lloyd mats come with plastic clips that install on the ends of the seat tracks. The underside of each mat should have a quick release buckle that attaches to the clip.
