Default I want to DIY my oil but need

Went to several local auto parts stores and they all stock the same plastic oil drain cans to catch the oil
The plugs and overall quality
Makes me worry about transporting to oil recycling facility
Any suggestions on a high quality one ( maybe metal) ?

You can "transport" your used oil in a bucket to any shop that collects it. I "transport" my used oil in the bottle from the new oil I put in the engine.

What is the "worry" part?

I have used gallon milk jugs, orange juice containers, antifreeze jugs or what ever I had laying around. I put the containers in a cardboard box and take the oil to where I bought it from for recycling. Gotta tell yuh I never got worried...that's how I roll....

I use two of these, 3gal each. Good for many oil changes. I take them to auto parts store for oil recycling once both are filled. Super convenient.

The cap is not super secure but as long as you keep the container upright, it should be fine.

Perfect oil drain pan?

Rubbermaid roughneck 10 gallon container. Lid seals tight, you can either transport the oil in the roughneck or pour it into other containers. It's deep enough that you don't have to worry about splash if the oil is coming out fast, and you don't have some big drain/funnel surface that you have to clean every time you use it.

About $10-$12 bucks at Wal-mart or the like.

I use one very much this Rhino model:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/RhinoGear-...n-Pan/20440558

It is all plastic but heavy and so far hasn't leaked a drop.

Couple of things:

Be sure the drain basin stopper plug is removed.

Do not let the oil drain plug fall into the drain basin or it will stop the drain hole and the pan basin will overflow.

Be sure the vent cap is off and the drain spout cap is on securely.

After you have finished while the thing has a carry handle I never carried it like a suitcase but carried it flat and put it in the rear trunk of my Boxster and drove to the auto parts store and dumped the oil promptly.

I use the same as Macster's from Wally World. I have an Amish Farm nearby which asks for old drain oil. No idea why? I will ask why next time I drop some off at the farm. o that's where mine goes, straight into a large marked barrel on the farm. No complaints as yet.

I have a waste oil heater in my garage - you can bring it over to my place!

Bought the catch-can at Walmart. Just to make sure it holds at least 10 quarts.

I do wrap mine in a garbage sack to and from in case there was any spillage that got on the outside of the container.

Oil burning stoves. We used them at the garage in Connecticut years ago with conventional motor oil.

Autozone sells a huge (20qt, maybe?) used oil jug. Very sturdy, unlike some of the crappy oil catch pans with leaky lids.

Can't believe people are over analyzing a simple container. Does anyone know what are the best gloves to wear while changing the oil? Also, what was the torque value of the oil nut again? Can I use a Jar opener instead of a oil filter socket to remove my oil filter housing?
