Default Call me the control car

Just bought a '03 C2 with 124K miles on the clock. Way too busy these days and foolishly drove it 500+ miles already commuting to work without even so much as check the oil...well I did let the computer do that...worthless IMO.

Next week it will be major DIY maintenance time. All fluids changed. Week after the motor mounts. Week after that water pump and thermostat. Christmas break will offer others! Sometime in January it will go in for a pro clutch, LM IMS bearing, and AOS. March will be a suspension refresh by me.

I think mine had 82k when I bought it.

Now it has 134k so yeah, if everything checks out go for it!

If your really serious about the mileage get ready to replace/repair many wear items. Also dismiss the idea of a Tip car with that kind of mileage. The manual will last much longer and would be a better choice in a high mileage car. 80,000 on a Tip is due for major repair/replacement.

Disagree 100%. Manual in 996 is a SP6 Japanese Aisin tranmission. Tiptronic in 996 MK2 (Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic transmission) is a GOAT automatic from the time period. Far more reliable and considered BULLETPROOF by mechanics who work on the transmissions.

The 5G-TRONIC is a 5 speed automatic transmission made by Mercedes Benz. It also goes by the technical name of 722.6. This transmission is very heavy duty and is designed with a torque capacity of close to 800 ft-lbs. You’re not going to find many stronger automatic transmissions on the market, not even behind diesel pickup trucks.

There is NO comparison between reliability and strength of Aisin SP6 and 5G-Tronic of MK2 tiprtonic cars. If you change trans fluid in Tip ever 30k, it will outlast the owner as 996 N/A is is not even taxing the transmission to the 1/2 of the capacity.

Still have the same car. It's a 1999 and the mileage is about 102K. Done pretty much all the common stuff and maintenance over the years. It's been pretty economical until recently as I've probably spent $5K in the last few months: brakes, brake lines, brake flush, motor mounts, filters, hydraulic rams for the convertible top, clutch master and slave cylinder, clutch and of course the dreaded I%S bearing.

She's in great shape now and ready for another 100,000 miles!!
