Default 997 Shifter into 996 Question

For those that recall, how new can the 997/987 shifter be to still fit in our 996's?

A 2006 987 shifter is the same as a 2006 997 shifter, correct? Wont that fit our 996's?

The 997 shifter is a direct fit into the 996. I bought a used 997 stock shifter (from a guy who put in the 997 SSK), and installed it on my 996.

Not sure about the 987 (but it's probably the same)

I bought a new 997 GT3 shifter from Sonnen and could not be happier. Shorter throw than 996, all metal internals, extremely crisp movement.

I 2nd this... I too have the 2010+ GT3 shifter and it is awesome. Not super short like the SSK but it is about 30% shorter and just feels "right".

KK, don't forget to replace the shift cables while you're in there and vacuum up any debris followed by shampooing the carpet under the center console. Also inspect the center console for any scratches and replace it if necessary while you have it out.

I think he should go with Cup cables. Only the best, right?

I think one of the sponsors just had a special on cables.

Is this the correct GT3 shifter/part# from Sonnen? If so, is $369 a good deal?

Item Number UOM Qty Price
99742401091 Each 1
$369.00

If it helps anyone else, part# 997 424 010 91 is the GT3 shifter.

There are some good posts on other websites, including Renntech. I checked at least 5 parts websites, and the price ranged from $404 to $450, so $369 at Sonnen looks pretty good right now.

There are 2 different GT3 shifter boxes. The one from the 997.1 is the same as other 997. The one from the 997.2 has metal bushings. The better box is the cup car box. The Short shift kit is simply the 997 box with a shorter throw, plastic bushings.

cup: 996.424.010.9A
997.1: 997 424 010 00
997.2: 997 424 010 91

From everything Ive read, for street use, the stock 997 and stock cables are best. The cup cables seem to transmit too much noise and vibes for street use. Im trying to make my 996 more pleasant to drive not worse. Especially since my wife is now asking about driving it.

Question is, are you gonna let her(without having a concealed go-pro camera somewhere. )?

I bought a 996 shifter/console which was in a 986, and installed it into my 987 yesterday. It's all interchangeable.
